DIRITTI UMANI UNIVERSALI E SFIDE EDUCATIVE INTERCULTURALI NELLA TARDA EPOCA DELLA MODERNITÀ

2018

Opozycja wewnątrzpartyjna w Socjaldemokrtaycznej Partii Niemiec w latach 1980-1982

2016

At the beginning of the 1980s a very serious internal conflict within the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) appeared, which was played out on a few levels. The first one w as the personal level, the second one was the program and ideology level. Both levels, especially in 1981 and in 1982 started to penetrate the strengthening the conflict and the signs of intra - party breakup, and revealing the views and actions of SPD party members, being in open opposition to the official policy of the social liberal government and the social democratic chancellor. Having entered opposition, the party adjusted the party program from above to the expectations of its members and its electorat e, ta…

The Genre System Lens on E-Democracy

2008

Published version of an article published in Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems, 20 (2), 51-82. Also available from the publisher at: http://aisel.aisnet.org/sjis/vol20/iss2/3 E-Democracy aims at enhancing citizen involvement in societal communication and decision making. However, the very ideals of democracy vary while reports of e-democracy in use have often left them undiscussed. Moreover, theoretical works on the potential of information technology (IT) for democratization have often viewed IT as a “black box”, and assumed that technology should create an impact as such. Hence, there is a dearth of research on the interplay between models of e-democracy and actual IT artefacts …

INCOME AND QUALITY OF LIFE INFLUENCE ON CITIZENS' PARTICIPATION IN ACTIVITIES OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN LATVIA

2018

The aim of the paper is to analyse the factors influencing the citizen participation in activities of local governments in relation to quality of life in Latvia. The use of the CLEAR model, elaborated by a group of British researchers under guidance of Gerry Stoker, shows the possibilities of participation and engagement of citizens based on theoretical aspects. Latvia, as a member state of the EU, needs to develop and to involve more citizens in different social activities, since it has comparatively small experience in democratic processes due to its past of 50 years being a part of another country — the Soviet Union. The opportunities to participate in the European Parliament’s election …

Gender training for the judiciary in Argentina

2014

AbstractIn this paper I describe the two major Argentine experiences of gender training for the judiciary against the background of two relevant trends, women's entry in considerable numbers into the judiciary and the process of expansion of women's rights initiated after the restoration of democracy. The gap between the passing of progressive legislation and its lack of enforcement speaks of a tradition of women's subordination that is much engrained in our society and in its legal system. In spite of the existence of progressive egalitarian legislation stereotyped thinking prevails to prevent progressive legal practices. This constitutes a strong argument for gender training of the judici…

Bodily cleanliness in modern nursing

2013

Why are bodily washing practices the way they are in nursing? Michel Foucault argues that modern democratic societies discipline human bodies in accordance with political interests. In the extension of that argumentation we will show that bodily cleanliness in modern nursing may have been used as a disciplining tool. The first part of our discussion takes as its point of departure the second half of the 19th/the beginning of the 20th centuries, the period in which modern nursing emerged. At that time scientific theories on hygiene seem to have legitimized the political effort to produce a clean, pleasant-smelling, decent, obedient, and productive population. Doctors, nurses and teachers pla…
