Designing an Online Escape Room as an Educational Tool

In this chapter, online escape rooms are assessed as part of game-based learning (GBL) that can be used as a free educational tool for teachers to enrich their remote classes. This study was created to test the possibilities that an escape room can provide in a remote learning environment. The benefits and the downsides are explored to understand the design process and the results from the different mechanisms used. The results can give an insight into future possibilities for making escape rooms for classes or for using this format as a prototype for an escape room application. Crowdboard: Augmenting in-person idea generation with real-time crowds

Online crowds can help infuse creativity into the design process, but traditional strategies for leveraging them, such as large-scale ideation platforms, require time and organizational effort in order to obtain results. We propose a new method for crowd-based ideation that simplifies the process by having smaller crowds join in-person ideators during synchronous creative sessions. Explanatory design means the practice by which design solutions are evidence-based. This practice has been the norm in engineering design, relying as it does on the laws of science, but much less attention has been paid to the necessity of abandoning intuitive practices in designing for the human element within technological systems. A software for the integrated design of wastewater treatment plants

Abstract A software package has been developed for automated design of wastewater treatment plants. A user-friendly environment has been implemented to facilitate design tasks, allowing rapid evaluation of different alternatives as well as performing sensitivity analyses. Flexible treatment plant configurations can be established with preliminary, primary, biological and tertiary wastewater treatments, and sludge treatment units. In this article we present the design and implementation of the web-based visualization tool VisAdapt, developed to support homeowners in the Nordic countries to assess anticipated climate change and climate related risks which are expected to negatively impact their living conditions.
