Neutrino-less Double Beta Decay and Physics Beyond the Standard Model

A brief sketch is given of the present observational status and future prospects of the physics of neutrino mass, including a survey of the various theoretical schemes of neutrino mass generation. Emphasis is given to those which are motivated by present experimental hints from solar and atmospheric neutrinos, as well as from cosmological data related to the dark matter question. The conceptual importance of neutrino-less double beta decay as a distinctive signature of the Majorana character of neutrinos is stressed. Barring accidental cancellations this process gives the strongest laboratory constraint on neutrino mass.

The Earth Mantle-Core Effect in Matter-Induced Asymmetries for Atmospheric Neutrino Oscillations

Earth medium effects in the three-neutrino oscillations of atmospheric neutrinos are observable under appropriate conditions. This paper generalizes the study of the medium effects and the possibility of their observation in the atmospheric neutrino oscillations from the case of neutrinos traversing only the Earth mantle, where the density is essentially constant, to the case of atmospheric neutrinos crossing also the Earth core. In the latter case new resonance-like effects become apparent. On the history of the PMNS Matrix... with today's perspective

The conceptual basis for understanding the interplay of neutrino mass and mixing for neutrino oscillations were paradoxically discussed in a period when the prevailing view was that of massless neutrinos. The name of Bruno Pontecorvo is associated to most of the components for this beautiful quantum phenomenon: muon-electron universality, different neutrino flavours, mismatch between weak interaction and mass eigenstates, neutrino oscillation phenomenology, including flavour and Majorana transitions.

Lower Bounds on Bilepton Processes at e-e- and mu-mu- Colliders

We show that the cross section of at least one of the s-channel processes e-e- (mu-mu-) --> l_i^- l_i^-, i=e,mu,tau, mediated by a doubly-charged scalar triplet bilepton is bounded from below and observable at a linear or muon collider if one of the light neutrinos has a mass in the range where it is required to be unstable by cosmological considerations. The result is model independent. We therefore stress the importance of the e-e- and mu-mu- collision modes of the future colliders for discovering new physics.

Sterile neutrinos in the 3+s scenario and solar data

The flatness of the SuperKamiokande neutrino electron scattering spectrum and the apparent downturn of the charged current spectrum in the SNO data which the Large Mixing Angle solution (LMA) to the solar neutrino problem fails to predict are analysed in the context of an extension to the standard electroweak model with light sterile neutrinos. It is found that a sterile neutrino which is quasi degenerate with the active ones with $\Delta m^2_{41}=10^{-5}eV^2$ and mixing $sin\theta_{14}=0.04$ provides a suitable improvement to the LMA data fits.

Implications of a dark matter-neutrino coupling at hyper-kamiokande

Dark matter and neutrinos provide the two most compelling pieces of evidence for new physics beyond the Standard Model of Particle Physics but they are often treated as two different sectors. In this paper, we consider how neutrino observables can be used to constrain the parameter space of different models where active neutrinos interact with DM via mediators of different spins. We study for the first time the sensitivity of the Hyper-Kamiokande detector to neutrinos produced from MeV Dark Matter annihilation. In particular, we find that thermally produced DM candidates with masses between 15-30 MeV could be fully excluded.

Neutrinos: Fast & Curious

The Standard Model has been effective way beyond expectations in foreseeing the result of almost all the experimental tests done up so far. In it, neutrinos are massless. Nonetheless, in recent years we have collected solid proofs indicating little but non zero masses for the neutrinos (when contrasted with those of the charged leptons). These masses permit neutrinos to change their flavor and oscillate, indeed a unique treat. In these lectures, I discuss the properties and the amazing potential of neutrinos in and beyond the Standard Model.

N-Delta(1232) axial form factors from weak pion production

The N Delta axial form factors are determined from neutrino induced pion production ANL and BNL data by using a theoretical model that accounts both for background mechanisms and deuteron effects. We find violations of the off-diagonal Goldberger-Treiman relation at the level of 2 sigma which might have an impact in background calculations for T2K and MiniBooNE low energy neutrino oscillation precision experiments.

Measuring Leptonic CP Violation with a Water Cerenkov

In this talk, we present the physics case for a megaton Water Cerenkov detector in addressing some of the still pending questions in neutrino oscillations physics, particularly the measurement of leptonic CP violation. We compare different future beams that could profit from a water detector and analyse, for the case $\theta_{13} \approx 3^\circ$ (the limit that can be reached by under-construction experiments), the signal-to-background rate for a $\beta$-beam setup with the radioactive ions accelerated to $\gamma = 350$.
