Unravelling some early determinants of liking for vegetables at 2 years: a longitudinal study from pregnancy to 2 years
2014
International audience; Food preferences guide food choices, and impact nutritional status, but their early origin needs clarification. The study aimed at understanding the early determining factors of the liking of vegetables (LVeg) at 2y, taking into account peri- and post-natal feeding experiences, children's acceptance of food tastes and odors and parental feeding practices. In a cohort of children (n 314), the milk, complementary feeding (CF) and table feeding received by children and the diet consumed by mothers during pregnancy/lactation were recorded by diaries. The acceptance of food tastes was evaluated in the lab at 3, 6, 12, 20mo; and of food odors at 8, 13, 22mo. Parental feedi…
Socio-demographic determinants and health related behaviors associated with sustainable food related choices : a quantitative, cross-sectional study …
2016
Masteroppgave folkehelsevitenskap - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Background and objectives: Creating a sustainable food system is considered a global challenge. Evidence suggests reductions of food waste and animal product consumption are among the most important consumer level changes in a food sustainability perspective. The present study aims to gain more knowledge on who is likely to make sustainable food related choices, focusing on household food waste and consumption of animal products. Methods: A selection of socio-demographic determinants and health related behaviors were included in the study. Data were obtained from a questionnaire survey from the study “Fruits and Vegetables Make …
Aroma perception in dairy products: the roles of texture, aroma release and consumer physiology. A review
2011
Aroma perception is a determinant factor in food choices and acceptability by consumers. To be perceived, aroma compounds must be released in the mouth during food breakdown, transferred into the nasal cavity to reach the olfactory receptor and then be perceived. So, in order to control aroma perception, knowledge of the main factors that can influence in-mouth aroma release is of major importance. Focusing on dairy products, this review article investigates the factors due to: (i) food products, and mainly the influence of food composition and structure on aroma retention and release; (ii) the inter-individual variability of subjects, mainly chewing behaviour, saliva rate and composition a…
Overview of methods used to evaluate the adequacy of nutrient intakes for individuals and populations
2009
The objective of the present paper is to review the methods of measuring micronutrient intake adequacy for individuals and for populations in order to ascertain best practice. A systematic review was conducted to locate studies on the methodological aspects of measuring nutrient adequacy. The results showed that for individuals, qualitative methods (to find probability of adequacy) and quantitative methods (to find confidence of adequacy) have been proposed for micronutrients where there is enough data to set an average nutrient requirement (ANR). If micronutrients do not have ANR, an adequate intake (AI) is often defined and can be used to assess adequacy, provided the distribution of dail…
Uric acid and uric acid/creatinine ratio and their correlations with the hemorheological determinants in subjects with subclinical carotid atheroscle…
2022
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: we have examined the concentration of serum uric acid and the serum uric acid/creatinine ratio as well as their correlations with the main determinants of the hemorheological profile in a group of subjects with subclinical carotid atherosclerosis. METHODS: we evaluated the concentration of serum uric acid and the serum uric acid/creatine ratio in 43 men and 57 women [median age 66.00 (25)] with subclinical carotid atherosclerosis, subsequently divided according to the number of traditional cardiovascular risk factors and to the insulin resistance degree. RESULTS: serum uric acid, but not the serum uric acid/creatinine ratio, results strongly influenced by the numbe…
Caries Severity, Decayed First Permanent Molars and Associated Factors in 6-7 Years Old Schoolchildren Living in Palermo (Southern Italy).
2023
To date, there are very few epidemiologic studies on caries disease in 6–7 year old children living in Sicily (Southern Italy). The first permanent molar (FPM) is the most commonly affected tooth in this target population, and a one-unit increase in the number of decayed FPMs is predictive of caries in other teeth and in adulthood. The primary aim of this research is to estimate the prevalence of caries in 6–7 year old schoolchildren living in Palermo and, as a secondary aim, to estimate the prevalence of affected FPMs. It was designed as a cluster cross-sectional survey on 995 children from 16 schools, selected based on their geographical location, in one of the eight city districts. Carie…
Flogosi post-trapianto di cornea
2013
An analytical review of destination competitiveness´ indicators
2015
The role of indicators in assisting tourism planners and decision-makers in evaluating performances, setting targets and anticipating future scenarios has been widely acknowledged by scholars. The purpose of this study is to provide an evaluation of existing composite indicators of tourism destination competitiveness (TDC) and propose a statistical toolbox/protocol to assess their effectiveness in empirical evaluations. We built the study’s protocol by enriching the OECD technical guidelines to build composite indicators. The protocol contains now 15 criteria used to examine the reviewed indicators, among these two useful quality measures. Ten studies were identified as providing a composit…
Analiz…
