A Comparative Study of Land Surface Emissivity Retrieval from NOAA Data

Abstract A comparative study has been carried out on the most recent algorithms for the estimation of land surface emissivity (ϵ) using Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) data. Three of the algorithms are based on the Temperature-Independent Spectral Indices (TISI) concept using atmospherically corrected channels 3, 4, and/or 5, namely: (1) TISI BL , (2) TS-RAM, and (3) Δ day. Land surface temperature retrieval from MSG1-SEVIRI data

Abstract We have developed a physical-based split-window Land Surface Temperature (LST) algorithm for retrieving the surface temperature from SEVIRI/MSG1 (Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager/Meteosat Second Generation1) data in two thermal infrared bands (IR 10.8 and IR 12.0). The proposed algorithm takes into account the SEVIRI angular dependence. The numerical values of the split-window coefficients have been obtained from a statistical regression method, using synthetic data. The look-up tables for atmospheric transmission, path radiance, and downward thermal irradiance are calculated with the MODTRAN3 code. An atmospheric model for computing direct and diffuse solar radiation

Abstract This paper proposes an atmospheric model, which extends the computation of the direct radiation given by Cole's model to the cloudy sky and shows a method to calculate the diffuse radiation. Therefore the monthly average values of the global radiation incident on a horizontal surface at Palermo are computed by this method. These values are compared with the experimental data provided by the Istituto di Idraulica Agraria, Universita di Palermo and generally exhibit a mean deviation not more than 10 per cent. Characterizing cavities in model inclusion molecules: a comparative study

We have selected fullerene-60 and -70 cavities as model systems in order to test several methods for characterizing inclusion molecules. The methods are based on different technical foundations such as a square and triangular tessellation of the molecule taken as a unitary sphere, spherical tessellation of the molecular surface, numerical integration of the atomic volumes and surfaces, triangular tessellation of the molecular surface, and a cubic lattice approach to a molecular space. The aims of the study were to assess speed, reliability, accuracy, and reproducibility in measuring mesiodistal tooth sizes, bicanine widths, bimolar widths, and arch lengths (ALs) using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and to compare them with the same measurements obtained using a two-dimensional (2D) Digital Method. Bimaxillary simultaneous immediate loading of full-arch restorations : a case series

Aim To describe a bimaxillary simultaneous immediate loading protocol with full-arch implant-supported fixed prostheses. Material and Methods A prospective case series of 8 patients who required full-arch rehabilitation was conducted. The main inclusion criteria were patients with teeth that required extraction. At least 1 molar per arch was temporarily employed to stabilize the surgical template and the provisional prosthesis during intraoral relining. Results Two upper implants failed in 1 patient. The feasibility of partial least squares (PLS) regression modeling of X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectra of estuarine sediments has been evaluated as a tool for rapid trace element content monitoring. Multivariate PLS calibration models were developed to predict the concentration of Al, As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sn, V and Zn in sediments collected from different locations across the estuary of the Nerbioi-Ibaizabal River (Metropolitan Bilbao, Bay of Biscay, Basque Country). Jet evolution in a dense medium: event-by-event fluctuations and multi-particle correlations

International audience; We study the gluon distribution produced via successive medium-induced branchings by an energetic jet propagating through a weakly-coupled quark-gluon plasma. We show that under suitable approximations, the jet evolution is a Markovian stochastic process, which is exactly solvable. A time-of-flight correction procedure for fast-timing data of recoils with varying implantation positions at a spectrometer focal plane

Abstract Fast-timing measurements at the focal plane of a separator can suffer from poor timing resolution. This is due to the variations in time-of-flight (ToF) for photons travelling to a given detector, which arise from the changes in the implantation positions of the recoil nuclei emitting the γ rays of interest. In order to minimise these effects on timing measurements, a procedure is presented that improves fast-timing data by performing ToF corrections on an event-by-event basis.
