Middle Miocene–Early Pliocene wedge-top basins of NW Sicily (Italy): constraints for the tectonic evolution of a ‘non-conventional’ thrust belt, affe…
2014
The study of geological evolution of a multiphase orogenic belt is complex, expecially when the tectonic events are superimposed in a coaxial fashion. The Sicilian fold-and-thrust belt represents an interest- ing case study, as a non-coaxial superimposition of structures is recognizable, owing to large synkinematic clockwise rotations during each of two subsequent compressional events. These rotations involved also the syntectonic basins that developed in the wedge-top depozone. This study aims to constrain the tectono-depo- sitional evolution of the NW Sicily fold-and-thrust belt and the associated wedge-top depozone between the middle Miocene and the early Pliocene. Integrated analyses of…
Simulation of parasitic effects on Silicon Carbide devices for automotive electric traction
2020
Wide Band Gap (WBG) semiconductors are increasingly addressed towards Electric Vehicle (EV) applications, due to their significant advantages in terms of high-voltage and low-losses performances, suitable for high power applications. Nevertheless, the packaging in WBG devices represents a challenge for designers due to the notable impact that inductive and capacitive parasitic components can bring in high switching frequency regime in terms of noise and power losses. In this paper, a comparison between conventional Silicon (Si) and emerging Silicon-Carbide (SiC) power switching devices is presented. The effects of inductive parasitic effects and switching frequency are investigated in simul…
Progressive Web Apps for the Unified Development of Mobile Applications
2018
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) allow for web applications to be developed in an offline-first approach. While Web apps traditionally did not properly function without an Internet connection, PWAs enable them to be downloaded, installed and used offline on various systems, including mobile devices and personal computers. We present an introduction to the state-of-art in research and practice. Based on this, we discuss various underlying concepts and technologies. Then, we scrutinize and compare PWAs against cross-platform app development approaches on both technical and overarching aspects. A list of suggestions for future research is also presented. We urge academia to keep up with the latest …
Developing Mobile Ontologies; Who, Why, Where, and How?
2007
The number of mobile subscribers in the world is soon reaching the three billion mark. According to the newest estimates, majority of the subscribers are already in the developing countries, whereas the number of subscribers in the industrialized countries is about to stagnate around one billion. Because especially in the developing countries the only access to Internet are mobile devices, developing high quality services based on them grows in importance. Ontologies are an important ingredient towards more complicated mobile services. In this paper we refine the taxonomy for mobile ontologies and discuss their creation, business models, maintenance and intellectual property rights (IPR).
Dataset related to the article "LITHOTRIPSY OF CALCIFIED AORTIC VALVE LEAFLETS BY A NOVEL ULTRASOUND TRANSCATHETER-BASED DEVICE"
2022
This record contains raw data related to the article “LITHOTRIPSY OF CALCIFIED AORTIC VALVE LEAFLETS BY A NOVEL ULTRASOUND TRANSCATHETER-BASED DEVICE” The increasing incidence of calcific aortic valve disease necessitates the elaboration of new strategies to retard the progression of the pathology with an innovative solution. While the increasing diffusion of the transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVRs) allows a mini-invasive approach to aortic valve substitution as an alternative to conventional surgical replacement (SAVR) in an always larger patient population, TAVR implantation still has contraindications for young patients. In addition, it is liable to undergo calcification with …
A hardware skin-segmentation IP for vision based smart ADAS through an FPGA prototyping
2017
International audience; In this paper we presents a platform based design approach for fast HW/SW embedded smart Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS) design and prototyping. Then, we share our experience in designing and prototyping a HW/SW vision based smart embedded system as an ADAS that helps to increase the safety of car's drivers. We present a physical prototype of the vision ADAS based on a Zynq FPGA. The system detects the fatigue state of the driver by monitoring the eyes closure and generates a real-time alert. A new HW/SW codesign skin segmentation step to locate the eyes/face is proposed. Our presented new approach migrates the skin segmentation step from processing system (S…
Electrochromic Performances of Poly(Azure A) Films from Digital Video-Electrochemistry (DVEC)
2020
Poly(Azure A) (PAA) films doped with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were grown on transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) glass substrates by cyclic voltammetry. The electrochromism of PAA was investigated by digital video-electrochemistry (DVEC). DVEC consists of the acquisition of sequential digital images during the electro-stimulated changes of PAA color. The evolution of red, green, and blue (R, G, B) colors intensity (I) of analyzed pixels provides enough sensitivity to detect changes of some nmol cm−2 of electroactive centers. Besides, the different time evolution of these color intensities can serve to discern among different electroactive centers activated in the polymer. For the first ti…
Design, synthesis and photovoltaic properties of [60]fullerene based molecular materials
2005
Abstract The possibility to use new organic semiconductor materials, in place of silicon wafers, in the fabrication of photovoltaic devices on substrates offer the prospect of lower manufacturing costs, particularly for large area applications. Thus, one of the most promising areas in fullerene research involves its potential application, mixed with conjugated polymers, in mimicking photosynthesis and in the related solar energy conversion. The tendency to phase segregation in blends of C60 derivatives and conjugated polymers has to be optimized to improve both charge photogeneration and transport in photovoltaic devices. In order to optimize device performances, a great deal of work has be…
Metal ion affinity-based biomolecular recognition and conjugation inside synthetic polymer nanopores modified with iron-terpyridine complexes.
2011
Here we demonstrate a novel biosensing platform for the detection of lactoferrin (LFN) via metal-organic frameworks, in which the metal ions have accessible free coordination sites for binding, inside the single conical nanopores fabricated in polymeric membrane. First, monolayer of amine-terminated terpyridine (metal-chelating ligand) is covalently immobilized on the inner walls of the nanopore via carbodiimide coupling chemistry. Second, iron-terpyridine (iron-terPy) complexes are obtained by treating the terpyridine modified-nanopores with ferrous sulfate solution. The immobilized iron-terPy complexes can be used as recognition elements to fabricate biosensing nanodevice. The working pri…
Symmetric naphthalenediimidequaterthiophenes for electropolymerized electrochromic thin films
2015
A new symmetric naphthalenediimidequaterthiophene (s-NDI2ODT4) was synthesized and exhibited the capability to electropolymerize alone or with EDOT affording polymers with controlled donor/acceptor monomer ratios. s-NDI2ODT4-EDOT-based copolymers showed low band gaps, wide optical absorption ranges extending to the near IR region, tuned electrical properties, thin-film surface morphology and hydrophilicity as well as high coloration efficiency in electrochromic devices.
