Sharp capacity estimates for annuli in weighted R^n and in metric spaces

2017

We obtain estimates for the nonlinear variational capacity of annuli in weighted R^n and in metric spaces. We introduce four different (pointwise) exponent sets, show that they all play fundamental roles for capacity estimates, and also demonstrate that whether an end point of an exponent set is attained or not is important. As a consequence of our estimates we obtain, for instance, criteria for points to have zero (resp. positive) capacity. Our discussion holds in rather general metric spaces, including Carnot groups and many manifolds, but it is just as relevant on weighted R^n. Indeed, to illustrate the sharpness of our estimates, we give several examples of radially weighted R^n, which …

El marketing en los museos españoles

2011

Proposal of a web site engagement scale and research model. Analysis of the influence of intra web site comparative behaviour

2011

A Web site engagement scale is suggested that serves as the basis of a two part-model. The first part studies the influence of the online comparative behaviour of consumers on Web site engagement using data obtained from respondents that selected a holiday package on an online travel agency capable of remotely tracing and recording their intra-Web page and intra-Web site behaviour. The second part of the model studies the influence of Web site engagement on consequences highly relevant for online marketers. The results confirm that the Web site engagement construct has five dimensions: positive affect, focused attention, challenge, curiosity and involvement. Likewise antecedents and consequ…

Selective Activation of Serotonin2C Receptors Stimulates GABA-ergic Function in the Rat Substantia Nigra Pars Reticulata: A Combined in Vivo Electrop…

2007

In vivo electrophysiology and microdialysis were used to investigate the physiological role of 5-HT2C receptors in the control of substantia nigra pars reticulata (SNr) function. Extracellular single-unit recordings were performed from putative GABA-containing neurons in the SNr of anesthetized rats, and local GABA release was studied by in vivo microdialysis in the SNr of awake freely-moving rats. Systemic administration of the selective 5-HT2C receptor agonist (S)-2-(chloro-5-fluoro-indol-1-yl)-1-methylethylamine 1:1 C4H4O4 (RO 60-0175) caused a dose-dependent excitation of about 30% of the SNr neurons recorded. However, the remaining neurons were either inhibited or unaffected by systemi…

Variations of selective separability II: Discrete sets and the influence of convergence and maximality

2012

A space $X$ is called selectively separable(R-separable) if for every sequence of dense subspaces $(D_n : n\in\omega)$ one can pick finite (respectively, one-point) subsets $F_n\subset D_n$ such that $\bigcup_{n\in\omega}F_n$ is dense in $X$. These properties are much stronger than separability, but are equivalent to it in the presence of certain convergence properties. For example, we show that every Hausdorff separable radial space is R-separable and note that neither separable sequential nor separable Whyburn spaces have to be selectively separable. A space is called \emph{d-separable} if it has a dense $\sigma$-discrete subspace. We call a space $X$ D-separable if for every sequence of …

Persistent link between Caribbean precipitation and Atlantic Ocean circulation during the Last Glacial revealed by a speleothem record from Puerto Ri…

2020

The sensitivity of tropical Atlantic precipitation patterns to the mean position of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) at different time scales is well‐known. However, recent research suggests a more complex behavior of the northern hemispheric tropical rain belt related to the ITCZ in the western tropical Atlantic. Here we present a precisely dated speleothem multi‐proxy record from a well‐monitored cave in Puerto Rico, covering the period between 46.2 and 15.3 ka. The stable isotope and trace element records document a pronounced response of regional rainfall to abrupt climatic excursions in the North Atlantic across the Last Glacial such as Heinrich stadials and Dansgaard/Oeschger…

Early ROS-mediated DNA damage and oxidative stress biomarkers in Monoclonal B Lymphocytosis

2012

Monoclonal B Lymphocytosis (MBL) is defined as asymptomatic monoclonal B-cell expansion characterised by a CLL-phenotype, but with less than 5 x 10(9)/I circulating cells. Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated cell damage plays a critical role in the initiation of carcinogenesis as well as in malignant transformation. The goal of this study was to perform an analysis of the oxidative stress statuses of patients affected by MBL and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). We examined peripheral blood and urine specimens from 29 patients with MBL, 55 with CLL and 31 healthy subjects. There was a significant increase in the occurrence of the mutagenic base 8-oxo-2'-deoxiguanosine (8-oxo-dG) in th…
