La lengua de los ditirambos de Baquílides

Los ditirambos de Baquílides, hasta ahora estudiados sobre todo desde un punto de vista literario, son los ejemplos más extensos conservados de este género de la lírica coral, cuya evolución hacia el Nuevo Ditirambo aún plantea muchas dudas. Para poder definir la lengua poética del ditirambo baquilídeo se hace necesario, en primer lugar, un análisis lingüístico de varias características fonéticas, morfológicas, sintácticas y léxicas. Jules Gillieron, born in Switzerland, became a professor of dialectology in Paris and thus the founder of the scientific dialectology in France. A dialect grammar and a phonetic atlas of the Roman Valais, both published in 1880, were expanded to the huge Linguistic atlas of France (ALF), published with E Edmont 1902–1910. Permanent explanatory notes and valuable monographs as interpretations of the maps supplemented the atlas. ‘Dialect’ was considered as a linguistic system with signs having an expression plane and a content plane—a structural approach.
Baltic and Finnic linguistic relations reflected in geolinguistic studies of the Baltic languages

The article provides insight into the reflection of Baltic and Finnic language contacts in geolinguistic studies of the Baltic languages. These contacts have a rather long history, and are particularly intense between the Latvian language and Finnic languages (especially Livonian and Estonian). In Lithuanian, Finnic borrowings have mostly appeared through Latvian, and fall into the dialectal Lithuanian vocabulary. The analysed material makes it possible to distinguish several areas of Finnic influences in Latvian sub-dialects. Latgalian surnames as a source of research in dialectology and language contact studies

Abstract This article is focused on the analysis of surnames used in the eastern part of Latvia, i.e., Latgale, the history of which to a certain extent differs from other regions of Latvia. This is due to almost 300 years (1629–1917) of isolation from the territory inhabited by other ethnic Latvians, during which this region was under Polish and later Russian rule. During this 300-year-long separation, Latgale developed its own culture, a written tradition based on the local Latvian dialect, etc. The introduction of surnames for the Latvians of Latgale also differed from other regions. The Bavarian J. A. Schmeller hoped that the Swiss educational reformer Pestalozzi would appoint him as a teacher. When this failed, he joined the Swiss military in Spanish services carrying out Pestalozzi's principles at military schools by teaching languages in Tarragona and Madrid, and, finally, at a private teaching institute in Basle. He was inspired by the Swiss dialect dictionary when he decided to make a Bavarian dialect dictionary and, based on this, a Bavarian dialect grammar. Our paper focuses on the notions of ‘space’ and ‘community’ within the most recent developments of Italian sociolinguistics. This research area has roots in the tradition of Italian geolinguistic studies and has been enhanced by other research traditions. In fact, Italian sociolinguistics has reused the relationship between ‘community’ and ‘space’ investigated in the early twentieth century by Benvenuto Terracini’s (1886–1968) seminal studies on ‘minimal linguistic point’ (‘punto linguistico minimo’) and on ‘community of speakers’. Foundations of language perceptions and the role of external factors: a Norwegian case

Non-linguists' perceptions of language in use are generally considered to be strongly influenced by evaluative factors: attitudes, values and ideology. Such a perspective represents a somewhat biased approach to ordinary people's knowledge about language, which is characteristic of both sociolinguistics and its sub-branch, perceptual dialectology. This paper presents an alternative approach, which comprised interviewing 44 Norwegian informants about language spoken locally.
