Effects of authority: Voicescapes in children’s beliefs about the learning of English

This paper examines learner beliefs from a dialogical point of view. Drawing on the writings of the Bakhtin circle, it sees beliefs as shared and recycled viewpoints that are multivoiced: they echo the voices of others as well as the voice of the speaker. A longitudinal interview study was conducted among a group of young Finnish learners of English. The analysis of the data focused on the voicework present in the learners’ answers: how they, on the one hand, echoed or even repeated the voices of authority, and, on the other hand, brought forward their own insights. Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena on ollut tarkastella sisäisten positioiden merkitystä pariskunnan välisen vuorovaikutuksen ja yhteisymmärryksen kehittymisessä masennuksen pariterapiassa. Students' dialogic and justifying moves during dialogic argumentation in mathematics and physics

In this study, we focus on dialogic argumentation among students in a whole class setting in mathematics and physics in lower secondary school. By drawing on previous studies on the structure of argumentation and dialogic interactions, we suggest that transparency of student reasoning and students' engagement with each other's ideas are two key aspects in dialogic argumentation. We examine what levels might exist in these key aspects and how they can exist simultaneously.
