Migration kinetics of ion-implanted beryllium in glassy carbon

2008

Abstract Migration kinetics of low-concentration implanted 7 Be in glassy carbon has been studied by the modified radiotracer technique at temperatures 1285 °C and 1340 °C. The annealed sample concentration profiles show two distinctive components: (i) Main profile broadening assigned to beryllium trapping in defects during annealing. (ii) Tail parts on both sides of the profile maximum related to faster migration. Of the latter the profile representing bulk diffusion lies on the region free of defect influence and is well described by concentration-independent diffusivity. The features of the concentration profile broadening towards the sample surface indicate partial Be trapping in defect…

The influence of Cr and Ni doping on the microstructure of oxygen containing diamond-like carbon films

2021

Abstract Non-hydrogenated diamond-like carbon (DLC) films doped with metals and oxygen were deposited by direct current magnetron sputtering. The influence of chromium and nickel on the surface morphology, elemental composition, bonding structure, adhesion force, optical transmittance and nanohardness of the films was characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), multi-wavelength Raman spectroscopy, UV–VIS–NIR spectrophotometry and nanoindenter. The surface roughness was reduced with the addition of Cr (7.4 at. %) or Ni (8.9 at. %) into DLC films. The EDX measurements indicated that the addition of Cr increased the oxygen content by ~37%, while …

Color centers in diamond as novel probes of superconductivity

2018

Magnetic imaging using color centers in diamond through both scanning and wide-field methods offers a combination of unique capabilities for studying superconductivity, for example, enabling accurate vector magnetometry at high temperature or high pressure, with spatial resolution down to the nanometer scale. The paper briefly reviews various experimental modalities in this rapidly developing nascent field and provides an outlook towards possible future directions.

Interradicular Root Canals in Mandibular First Molars: A Literature Review and Ex Vivo Study

2019

Abstract Introduction Successful endodontic treatment vastly depends to a high degree on an accurate knowledge of root canal system morphology. It is a prerequisite to be aware of all possible reservoirs where bacteria and/or toxins can persist, compromising the surrounding tissues; such knowledge results in endodontic success. Methods The presence of interradicular canals and diverticula between the pulp chamber floor and the bifurcation area surface of 117 mandibular first molars was investigated. Access cavities were prepared, the teeth were embedded in plastic, and the pulp chambers were flooded with methylene blue and then centrifuged. An average of 4.2 (0.145 ± 0.03 mm thickness) slic…

The severe phenotype of Diamond-Blackfan anemia is modulated by heat shock protein 70.

2017

International audience; Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA) is a rare congenital bone marrow failure syndrome that exhibits an erythroid-specific phenotype. In at least 70% of cases, DBA is related to a haploinsufficient germ line mutation in a ribosomal protein (RP) gene. Additional cases have been associated with mutations in GATA1. We have previously established that the RPL11+/Mut phenotype is more severe than RPS19+/Mut phenotype because of delayed erythroid differentiation and increased apoptosis of RPL11+/Mut erythroid progenitors. The HSP70 protein is known to protect GATA1, the major erythroid transcription factor, from caspase-3 mediated cleavage during normal erythroid differentiation.…

Channeling experiments at planar diamond and silicon single crystals with electrons from the Mainz Microtron MAMI

2020

Line structures were observed for (110) planar channeling of electrons in a diamond single crystal even at a beam energy of 180 MeV . This observation motivated us to initiate dechanneling length measurements as function of the beam energy since the occupation of quantum states in the channeling potential is expected to enhance the dechanneling length. High energy loss signals, generated as a result of emission of a bremsstrahlung photon with about half the beam energy at channeling of 450 and 855 MeV electrons, were measured as function of the crystal thickness. The analysis required additional assumptions which were extracted from the numerical solution of the Fokker-Planck equation. Prel…

Fixed dental prostheses with vertical tooth preparations without finish lines: A report of two patients

2016

Tooth abutments can be prepared to receive fixed dental prostheses with different types of finish lines. The literature reports different complications arising from tooth preparation techniques, including gingival recession. Vertical preparation without a finish line is a technique whereby the abutments are prepared by introducing a diamond rotary instrument into the sulcus to eliminate the cementoenamel junction and to create a new prosthetic cementoenamel junction determined by the prosthetic margin. This article describes 2 patients whose dental abutments were prepared to receive ceramic restorations using vertical preparation without a finish line.

The diamond partial order for strong Rickart rings

2016

The diamond partial order has been first introduced for matrices, and then discussed also in the general context of *-regular rings. We extend this notion to Rickart rings, and state various properties of the diamond order living on the so-called strong Rickart rings. In particular, it is compared with the weak space preorder and the star order; also existence of certain meets and joins under diamond order is discussed.

Defektanalyse von a-C- und CNx-Schichten mittels Röntgen-Photoemissions-Elektronenmikroskopie (X-PEEM)Characterization of stoichiometric defects in d…

2001
