The causes of low adherence in patients with antihypertensive therapy

2016

Low adherence to antihypertensive therapy is a major cause of adverse cardiovascular outcomes by uncontrolled high blood pressure. If the most frequent causes of inappropriate taking of medicine are identified, possible improvements within the health care could be performed, promoting the safety and efficacy of antihypertensive therapy. The aim was to find the factors affecting patient's adherence during antihypertensive therapy. In the period from June to September 2014 a quantitative study was carried out including patients with diagnosed arterial hypertension who visited pharmacies in Riga to get the antihypertensive therapy. The study collected data of 152 patients with the mean antihyp…

Pancreatoduodenectomy with artery-first approach.

2019

"Artery-first approach" encompasses different aspects for the surgical treatment of pancreatic cancer. It is a surgical technique or set of techniques which share in common the dissection of the main arterial vasculature involved in pancreatic cancer, before any irreversible surgical step is performed. On the other hand it represents the need for a meticulous dissection of the arterial planes and clearing of the retropancreatic tissue between the superior mesenteric artery, the common hepatic artery and portal vein in an attempt to achieve R0 resections. The recent expansion of this approach is based mainly on three factors: venous involvement should not be considered a contraindication for…

Herbal Medications in Endodontics and Its Application—A Review of Literature

2022

Herbal products are gaining popularity in dental and medical practice nowadays due to their biocompatibility, higher antimicrobial activity, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Herbal medicine has experienced rapid growth in recent years due to its beneficial properties, ease of availability, and lack of side effects. As pathogenic bacteria become more resistant to antibiotics and chemotherapeutic agents, researchers are becoming more interested in alternative products and treatment choices for oral diseases. As a result, natural phytochemicals separated from plants and utilized in traditional medicine are suitable substitutes for synthetic chemicals. The aim of this review articl…

The Nature of Transannular Interactions in E4N4 and E82+ (E = S, Se)

2012

The electronic structures of tetrachalcogen tetranitrides, E4N4, and octachalcogen dications, E82+, and the nature of their intramolecular E···E interactions (E = S, Se) was studied with high-level theoretical methods. The results reveal that the singlet ground states of both systems have a surprisingly large correlation contribution which functions to weaken and therefore lengthen the cross-ring E–E bond. The observed correlation effects are primarily static in E4N4, whereas in E82+ the dynamic part largely governs the total correlation contribution. The presented description of bonding is the first that gives an all-inclusive picture of the origin of cross-ring interactions in E4N4 and E8…

National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project (NSHAP): Round 1, [United States], 2005-2006

2007

The National Social Life, Health and Aging Project (NSHAP) is the first population-based study of health and social factors on a national scale, aiming to understand the well-being of older, community-dwelling Americans by examining the interactions among physical health, illness, medication use, cognitive function, emotional health, sensory function, health behaviors, and social connectedness. It is designed to provide health providers, policy makers, and individuals with useful information and insights into these factors, particularly on social and intimate relationships. The National Opinion Research Center (NORC), along with Principal Investigators at the University of Chicago, conducte…

Burnout syndrome assessment among Spanish oral surgery consultants: A two populations comparative pilot study.

2021

Background The professional Burnout Syndrome (BOS) or Burnout is considered a professional disease made up of three interrelated dimensions (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and lack of personal fulfillment). BOS has been documented to most severely affect the healthcare professions, especially dentists. On the other hand, its appearance has been documented at an early age, during dental training. However, there are no studies that analyze its incidence in professionals dedicated to Oral Surgery and Implantology, determining the age of onset and related factors. Material and Methods The modified Maslach questionnaire was carried out anonymously among the professors and students of th…
