ChemInform Abstract: Catalytic Enantioselective Conjugate Alkynylation of β-Aryl-β-trifluoromethyl Enones Constructing Propargylic All-Carbon Quatern…
2016
The enantioselective conjugate alkynylation of β-aryl-β-trifluoromethyl enones has been carried out using terminal alkynes and diethylzinc in the presence of 3,3′-bis(perfluorophenyl)BINOL as the chiral ligand to give the corresponding ketones bearing a trifluoromethylated propargylic quaternary stereocenter with fair to good enantioselectivities. Enones bearing a bulky 2-naphthyl attached to the carbonyl group provided the best enantioselectivities. The synthetic applicability of the resulting products has been demonstrated with their iodocyclization to form 4H-pyrans.
Phase Equilibria Involved in the Extractive Distillation of Cyclohexane + Cyclohexene Using Diethyl Carbonate as an Entrainer
2011
Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data at 100 kPa have been measured for the ternary system cyclohexane + cyclohexene + diethyl carbonate and two constituent binary systems: cyclohexane + diethyl carbonate and cyclohexene + diethyl carbonate. Both binary systems show moderate positive deviations from ideal behavior and do not present an azeotrope. The VLE data have been correlated by the Wilson, universal quasichemical activity coefficient (UNIQUAC), and nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) equations. The ternary system does not present an azeotrope and is well-estimated from binary interaction parameters. A prediction with the universal functional activity coefficient (UNIFAC)-Dortmund method…
Effect of an oral dietary supplementation by a formulation based on silibinin-phosphatidylcholine complex in cats with liver diseases
2017
Background: Liver pathology in cats represents a frequent clinical condition occurring in animals of any age. Dietary supplementation with hepatoprotective and antioxidant products could represent a beneficial strategy to prevent and treat these disorders. We evaluated the tolerability and efficacy of long-term treatment with a multi-component, dietary supplement containing functional natural ingredients with recognized hepatoprotective properties in cats suffering from liver diseases Methods: 20 European domestic cats of either gender, 10 with hepatic lipidosis and 10 with cholangitis received for 180 consecutive days a multi-component formulation based on the silibinin-phosphatidylcholine…
The Effects of a 2-year Individualized and Family-based Lifestyle Intervention on Physical Activity, Sedentary Behavior and Diet in Children
2016
Objective To investigate the effects of a long-term, individualized and family-based lifestyle intervention on physical activity, sedentary behavior and diet quality in children. Methods We carried out a 2-year intervention study in a population sample of 506 children aged 6–8 years in Finland in 2007–2012. We allocated the participants at baseline in the intervention and control group. We assessed physical activity and sedentary behavior by questionnaires and diet by food records. Results Total physical activity (+ 9 min/d in intervention group vs. − 5 min/d in control group, p = 0.001 for time*group interaction), unsupervised physical activity (+ 7 min/d vs. − 9 min/d, p < 0.001) and orga…
Vitamin D Deficiency in Cushing’s Disease: Before and After Its Supplementation
2022
Background: The primary objective of the study was to assess serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] values in patients with Cushing’s disease (CD), compared to controls. The secondary objective was to assess the response to a load of 150,000 U of cholecalciferol. Methods: In 50 patients with active CD and 48 controls, we evaluated the anthropometric and biochemical parameters, including insulin sensitivity estimation by the homeostatic model of insulin resistance, Matsuda Index and oral disposition index at baseline and in patients with CD also after 6 weeks of cholecalciferol supplementation. Results: At baseline, patients with CD showed a higher frequency of hypovitaminosis deficiency (p = 0…

Associations of dietary carbohydrate and fatty acid intakes with cognition among children
2020
Objective: To investigate the cross-sectional associations of dietary carbohydrate and fatty acid intakes with cognition in mid-childhood. Design: Dietary carbohydrate and fatty acid intakes were assessed using 4-d food records, and cognition was evaluated using the Raven’s Coloured Progressive Matrices (RCPM) score. The cross-sectional associations of dietary carbohydrate and fatty acid intakes with cognition were investigated using linear regression analyses adjusted for age, sex, body fat percentage, household income, parental education and daily energy intake. Setting: The baseline examinations of the Physical Activity and Nutrition in Children study. Participants: A population-based sa…
Metformin Use and Cognitive Function in Older Adults With Type 2 Diabetes Following a Mediterranean Diet Intervention
2021
Background and Purpose: Both adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) and the use of metformin could benefit the cognitive performance of individuals with type 2 diabetes, but evidence is still controversial. We examined the association between metformin use and cognition in older adults with type 2 diabetes following a MedDiet intervention. Methods: Prospective cohort study framed in the PREDIMED-Plus-Cognition sub-study. The PREDIMED-Plus clinical trial aims to compare the cardiovascular effect of two MedDiet interventions, with and without energy restriction, in individuals with overweight/obesity and metabolic syndrome. The present sub-study included 487 cognitively normal subjects…

"Having a drink in a bar": An immersive approach to explore the effects of context on drink choice
2013
UT: 000315557500004; International audience; This paper aims to evaluate the effect of context on food choices. Two studies are presented to test the potential of an immersive approach to help understanding contextual influences on drink choices. To generate contextual effects, two bar-like environments based on the idea of "having a drink in a bar" were created: one with wood furniture and one with blue furniture. In both immersive bars, clips with visual and music stimuli were projected on a wall to change the overall warmth of the ambience. In the first study, five different clips were projected. Participants in the immersive bars had to choose a drink within a large range of drinks for …
