A note on some fundamental results in complete gauge spaces and application

We discuss the extension of some fundamental results in nonlinear analysis to the setting of gauge spaces. In particular, we establish Ekeland type and Caristi type results under suitable hypotheses for mappings and cyclic mappings. Our theorems generalize and complement some analogous results in the literature, also in the sense of ordered sets and oriented graphs. We apply our results to establishing the existence of solution to a second order nonlinear initial value problem.

Sparse relative risk survival modelling

Cancer survival is thought to closed linked to the genimic constitution of the tumour. Discovering such signatures will be useful in the diagnosis of the patient and may be used for treatment decisions and perhaps even the development of new treatments. However, genomic data are typically noisy and high-dimensional, often outstripping the number included in the study. Regularized survival models have been proposed to deal with such scenary. These methods typically induce sparsity by means of a coincidental match of the geometry of the convex likelihood and (near) non-convex regularizer.

From Dupin cyclides to scaled cyclides

Dupin cyclides are algebraic surfaces introduced for the first time in 1822 by the French mathematician Pierre-Charles Dupin. They have a low algebraic degree and have been proposed as a solution to a variety of geometric modeling problems. The circular curvature line’s property facilitates the construction of the cyclide (or the portion of a cyclide) that blends two circular quadric primitives. In this context of blending, the only drawback of cyclides is that they are not suitable for the blending of elliptic quadric primitives. On the History of Differentiable Manifolds

International audience; We discuss central aspects of history of the concept of an affine dif-ferentiable manifold, as a proposal confirming the need for using some quantitative methods (drawn from elementary Model Theory) in Mathematical Historiography. In particular, we prove that this geometric structure is a syntactic rigid designator in the sense of Kripke-Putnam.

Iterative geometric modelling and new world of shapes

Mes recherches ont pour cadre la modélisation géométrique pour la Conception Assistée par Ordinateur et la Synthèse d'images. Plus précisément, j'étudie les possibilités qu'offrent les procédés de construction itératifs basés sur le principe de la géométrie fractale. An Inverse Problem for the Relativistic Boltzmann Equation

We consider an inverse problem for the Boltzmann equation on a globally hyperbolic Lorentzian spacetime $(M,g)$ with an unknown metric $g$. We consider measurements done in a neighbourhood $V\subset M$ of a timelike path $\mu$ that connects a point $x^-$ to a point $x^+$. The measurements are modelled by a source-to-solution map, which maps a source supported in $V$ to the restriction of the solution to the Boltzmann equation to the set $V$. We show that the source-to-solution map uniquely determines the Lorentzian spacetime, up to an isometry, in the set $I^+(x^-)\cap I^-(x^+)\subset M$. A blow-up result for a nonlinear wave equation on manifolds: the critical case

We consider a inhomogeneous semilinear wave equation on a noncompact complete Riemannian manifold (Formula presented.) of dimension (Formula presented.), without boundary. The reaction exhibits the combined effects of a critical term and of a forcing term. Using a rescaled test function argument together with appropriate estimates, we show that the equation admits no global solution. Moreover, in the special case when (Formula presented.), our result improves the existing literature. Namely, our main result is valid without assuming that the initial values are compactly supported.

Comparison of the Root Canal Curvatures of Human Teeth with the Curvatures of the Resin Blocks Used as Models for Training

In this paper we develop a method to associate a function curvature to human teeth roots.These functions are calculated from radiographs using mathematical software. We use this procedure to compare the curvatures of the roots with the curvatures of the resin blocks that are used for learning. The comparison is made by calculating the distances of the corresponding functions in the \(L_1\) metric.

Such materials include glass-fibre mats, filters, various paper products and structural components of cells and tissues.
