Segre and the Foundations of Geometry: From Complex Projective Geometry to Dual Numbers

2016

In 1886 Corrado Segre wrote to Felix Klein about his intention to study ‘geometrie projective pure’, completing and developing the work of von Staudt. He would continue this research project throughout the whole of his scientific life. In 1889, following a suggestion of Segre, Mario Pieri published his translation of the Geometrie der Lage, and from 1889 to 1890 Segre published four important papers, “Un nuovo campo di ricerche geometriche”, in which he completely developed complex projective geometry, considering new mathematical objects such as antiprojectivities and studying the Hermitian forms from a geometrical point of view with the related ‘hyperalgebraic varieties’. Segre developed …

Indefinite integrals of special functions from integrating factors

2019

Some general integrals are presented which were obtained from two integrating factors f(x) and fˆ(x) for the first two and last two terms, respectively, of the second-order linear ordinary differen...

Singular integrals and rectifiability

2002

We shall discuss singular integrals on lower dimensional subsets of Rn. A survey of this topic was given in [M4]. The first part of this paper gives a quick review of some results discussed in [M4] and a survey of some newer results and open problems. In the second part we prove some results on the Riesz kernels in Rn. As far as I know, they have not been explicitly stated and proved, but they are very closely related to some earlier results and methods. Spectral invariance for algebras of pseudodifferential operators on besov-triebel-lizorkin spaces

1993

The algebra of pseudodifferential operators with symbols inS1,δ0, δ<1, is shown to be a spectrally invariant subalgebra of ℒ(bp,qs) and ℒ(Fp,qs).

Invariance spectrale des algèbres d'opérateurs pseudodifférentiels

2002

We construct and study several algebras of pseudodifferential operators that are closed under holomorphic functional calculus. This leads to a better understanding of the structure of inverses of elliptic pseudodifferential operators on certain non-compact manifolds. It also leads to decay properties for the solutions of these operators. To cite this article: R. Lauter et al., C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris, Ser. I 334 (2002) 1095–1099.

Generalizations of Clausen's formula and algebraic transformations of Calabi-Yau differential equations

2011

AbstractWe provide certain unusual generalizations of Clausen's and Orr's theorems for solutions of fourth-order and fifth-order generalized hypergeometric equations. As an application, we present several examples of algebraic transformations of Calabi–Yau differential equations.

The module structure of Hochschild homology in some examples

2008

Abstract In this Note we give a simple proof of a conjecture by A. Caldararu stating the compatibility between the modified Hochschild–Kostant–Rosenberg isomorphism and the action of Hochschild cohomology on Hochschild homology in the case of Calabi–Yau manifolds and smooth projective curves.
