Photolysis of enol acetates and α-bromo derivatives ofo-(acyloxy)acetophenones

UV irradiation of enol acetates 3a – g in benzene gives mainly o-(acetoxy)acetophenones 2 and 2-methylchromones 4. Under the same conditions, the dimethyl derivatives 3h and 3i remain unaffected. The α-bromo ketone 5a gives rise to mixtures of o-(acetoxy)acetophenone (2a), the diketone 6, and/or α-acetoxy-o-hydroxyacetophenone (7), depending on the irradiation conditions. The similarities and differences between the two series of experiments, as well as their possible mechanistic implications, are discussed. SUMMARY 1. Biological invasions often involve close taxonomic relatives either as native/invader pairs or as invader/invader pairs. Precise identification and differentiation of species is therefore of paramount importance to reconstruct the invasion history. Genetic studies are indispensable in the case of morphologically conservative taxonomic groups. 2. We analysed the Pontocaspian freshwater amphipods Dikerogammarus that have successfully invaded the benthos of large Central European rivers. Abstract Trifluoromethylated 2-amino-pyrimidine N-oxides have been synthesized by reaction of the 3-amino-5-methyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole with trifluoromethyl-β-diketones in the presence of perchloric acid, followed by hydrolysis. In this ring-to-ring transformation an initial formation of (unisolated) 1,2,4-oxadiazole-pyrimidinium salts, and subsequent ring-opening at the oxadiazole moiety occurs. Isolation of 2-(hydroxyamino)-pyrimidine from the reaction mixture evidenced the presence of a competing pathway where the N(4) nitrogen of the oxadiazole is involved in the formation of a regioisomeric pyrimidinium salt. Abstract Geophysical and geoarchaeological investigations were carried out in the Wadden Sea of North Frisia (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany) to elucidate major environmental changes that considerably altered the coastal landscape since medieval times. Between the 12 th and 14 th cent. AD, the present-day tidal flats around the marsh island Hallig Sudfall belonged to the historical Edomsharde district and its main settlement Rungholt . For North Frisia, it is well known that during medieval and early modern times, extreme storm surges caused major land losses associated with a massive landward shift of the coastline. Abstract Results are presented on scubadiving investigations carried out on thermal manifestations in the area of Panarea (Aeolian Islands). The area investigated falls inside a caldera which extends from the main island to the group of islets located to the northeast. The distribution of the gaseous manifestations is regulated by the NE-SW, NW-SE and N-S regional tectonic directrices, through which the more recent basic magma intruded, giving rise to dikes and pillow lavas. f O 2 -temperature relation of the gases sampled in the investigated area was calculated to be: log f O 2 = 11−24,593/ T which indicates that a buffering mechanism acted on the gases as they cooled down during their asc…
Total Synthesis of Lavendamycin by a [2+2+2] Cycloaddition

The total synthesis of the bacterial-derived, pentacyclic, antitumor antibiotic lavendamycin has been achieved through a highly convergent strategy. The key step of this synthesis is a ruthenium-catalyzed [2+2+2] cycloaddition of an electron-deficient nitrile to an alkynyl-ynamide to prepare the carboline scaffold. The elaborate cycloaddition substrate is obtained in few steps by an N-ethynylation using alkynyliodonium salt chemistry and two palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. An efficient synthesis of a halogenated quinoline-5,8-dione building block starting from hydroquinone is presented.

Tutkielmassa selvitetään avoimen lähdekoodin ja sen kehityksen piirteitä ja toimintatapoja, avoimeen lähdekoodikehitykseen osallistujien motivaatioita sekä arvioidaan avoimen lähdekoodin hyviä ja huonoja puolia. Lisäksi tutkielmassa verrataan avointa lähdekoodikehitystä kaupalliseen kehitykseen, ja pohditaan kaupallisuuden ja avoimen lähdekoodin yhdistämistä. Myös avoimelle lähdekoodille oleellisia lisenssejä käsitellään. Näitä osa-alueita peilataan esimerkkien avulla avoimen lähdekoodin piirto-ohjelmiin GIMP:iin ja Kritaan.
