Backlund transformations in 2-D dilaton gravity

1998

We give a B\"acklund transformation connecting a generic 2D dilaton gravity theory to a generally covariant free field theory. This transformation provides an explicit canonical transformation relating both theories.

Quantum cosmological approach to 2d dilaton gravity

1993

We study the canonical quantization of the induced 2d-gravity and the pure gravity CGHS-model on a closed spatial section. The Wheeler-DeWitt equations are solved in (spatially homogeneous) choices of the internal time variable and the space of solutions is properly truncated to provide the physical Hilbert space. We establish the quantum equivalence of both models and relate the results with the covariant phase-space quantization. We also discuss the relation between the quantum wavefunctions and the classical space-time solutions and propose the wave function representing the ground state.

Mass spectrum and thermodynamics of quasi-conformal gauge theories from gauge/gravity duality

2011

We use gauge/gravity duality to study simultaneously the mass spectrum and the thermodynamics of a generic quasi-conformal gauge theory, specified by its beta function. The beta function of a quasi-conformal theory almost vanishes, and the coupling is almost constant between two widely separated energy scales. Depending on whether the gravity dual has a black hole or not, the mass spectrum is either a spectrum of quasinormal oscillations or a normal T=0 mass spectrum. The mass spectrum is quantitatively correlated with the thermal properties of the system. As the theory approaches conformality, the masses have to vanish. We show that in this limit, the masses calculated via gauge/gravity du…

Conformal and non-conformal symmetries in 2D dilaton gravity

1996

We introduce new extra symmetry transformations for generic 2D dilaton-gravity models. These symmetries are non-conformal but special linear combinations of them turn out to be the extra (conformal) symmetries of the CGHS model and the model with an exponential potential. We show that one of the non-conformal extra symmetries can be converted into a conformal one by means of adequate field redefinitions involving the metric and the derivatives of the dilaton. Finally, by expressing the Polyakov-Liouville effective action in terms of an auxiliary invariant metric, we construct one-loop models which maintain the extra symmetry of the classical action. © 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.

Canonical equivalence of a generic 2-D dilaton gravity model and a free field

1997

We show that a canonical transformation converts, up to a boundary term, a generic 2-D dilaton gravity model into a free field theory with a Minkowskian target space.

Unified Approach to Dense Matter

2004

We apply the Skyrme model to dense hadronic matter, which provides a unified approach to high density, valid in the large Nc limit. In our picture, dense hadronic matter is described by the classical soliton configuration with minimum energy for the given baryon number density. By incorporating the meson fluctuations on such ground state we obtain an effective Lagrangian for meson dynamics in a dense medium. Our starting point has been the Skyrme model defined in terms of pions, thereafter we have extended and improved the model by incorporating other degrees of freedom such as dilaton, kaons and vector mesons.

NON-PERTURBATIVE VACUUM WAVE-FUNCTIONAL AND CLOSED STRING EQUATIONS OF MOTION

1989

The anomalous conformal dependence of the vacuum wave-functional is studied in the non-perturbative regime of the closed bosonic string theory. It is shown that the vanishing of the vacuum expectation value of the stress-energy tensor trace leads to the implementation of a suitable variational condition on the wave-functional, provided that the dilaton condensate be taken as a conformal compensator for the graviton condensate of the embedding space.

Natural stabilization of the Higgs boson’s mass and alignment

2019

Current data from the LHC indicate that the 125 GeV Higgs boson, $H$, is either the single Higgs of the Standard Model or, to a good approximation, an "aligned Higgs". We propose that $H$ is the pseudo-Goldstone dilaton of Gildener and Weinberg. Models based on their mechanism of scale symmetry breaking can naturally account for the Higgs boson's low mass and aligned couplings. We conjecture that they are the only way to achieve a "Higgslike dilaton" that is actually the Higgs boson. These models further imply the existence of additional Higgs bosons in the vicinity of 200 to about 550 GeV. We illustrate our proposal in a version of the two-Higgs-doublet model of Lee and Pilaftsis. Our vers…

Meson and glueball spectroscopy within the graviton soft wall model

2021

The graviton soft wall model (GSW) provides a unified description of the scalar glueball and meson spectra with a unique energy scale. This success has led us to extend the analysis to the description of the spectra of other hadrons. We use this model to calculate masses of the odd and even ground states of glueballs for various spins, and show that the GSW model is able to reproduce the Regge trajectory of these systems. In addition, the spectra of the $\rho$, $a_1$ and the $\eta$ mesons will be addressed. Results are in excellent agreement with current experimental data.Furthermore such an achievement is obtained without any additional parameters. Indeed, the only two parameters appearing…

General Solution for Self-Gravitating Spherical Null Dust

1997

We find the general solution of equations of motion for self-gravitating spherical null dust as a perturbative series in powers of the outgoing matter energy-momentum tensor, with the lowest order term being the Vaidya solution for the ingoing matter. This is done by representing the null-dust model as a 2d dilaton gravity theory, and by using a symmetry of a pure 2d dilaton gravity to fix the gauge. Quantization of this solution would provide an effective metric which includes the back-reaction for a more realistic black hole evaporation model than the evaporation models studied previously.
