Group psychotherapy in Italy

2015

This article describes the history and the prevailing orientations of group psychotherapy in Italy (psychoanalytically oriented, psychodrama, CBT groups) and particularly group analysis. Provided free of charge by the Italian health system, group psychotherapy is growing, but its expansion is patchy. The main pathways of Italian training in the different group psychotherapy orientations are also presented. Clinical-theoretical elaboration on self development, psychopathology related to group experiences, and the methodological attention paid to objectives and methods in different clinical groups are issues related to group therapy in Italy. Difficulties in the relationship between research …

Quality of Life and Sexuality among People with Mental and Physical Disabilities in the Italian Context

2016

Aim: The article analyses sexuality and quality of life among people with mental and physical disabilities in the Italian context. It is aimed at contributing to a social debate over the sexual assistant for disabled people, as this professional is not still present in Italy. The aim of this paper is therefore to reflect on the consequences of the negative attitudes towards sexual life in disabled people, as well as for their families and community. In the collective unconscious, people with physical or mental disabilities are considered unable to live a healthy sexuality. This representation contributes to the spread of false attributions and prejudices. These characteristics may also be f…

Links between adverse childhood experiences, psychopathological symptoms and recidivism risk in juvenile delinquents

2020

Research in the field of developmental psycho-criminology shows that conduct disorders and deviant behaviours are frequently associated with traumatic and adverse developmental experiences. Personality traits and psychopathological symptoms also increase the risk of criminality. However, the role of psychopathological symptoms in the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and offending has rarely been researched. The present study was designed to throw further light on these issues by analysing risk factors in a group of adolescents and young adults in a juvenile detention centre in southern Italy. Results support the idea that the accumulation of risk factors is a major factor…

2009

The aim of the study is to identify relational goods in the transcriptions produced by sound recording of a median group experience at University of Palermo. In particular, the present work proposes to analyze the most representative qualities of this phenomenon and summarized them in the following indicators: 1) emergent fact; 2) recognition; 3) solidarity. Our theoretical hypothesis is based on the fundamental group analytic epistemological assumption that defines relation as the beginning of the development of human psyche and considers the Group a primary matrix in which originate subjectivity and human relationship (Lo Verso, 1994; Mitchell, 2000). Therefore, the group becomes the elec…

Development of Research on Group Psychotherapy. Epistemological Notes and Survey on the Set(ting).

2010

The understanding of the clinical therapeutic process and the possibility of studying it from a scientific point of view are central issues in our work of elaboration about research and assessment of group psychotherapy. In a perspective in which theoretical reflection and clinical practice constantly interlace, stimulating and supporting each other, we tried to develop an integration of the clinical requirements, with the epistemological issues and the social and scientific ones. This conducted us to reflect about the scientific qualification of research and about criteria and parameters to distinguish between what is scientific knowledge and what is not; to elaborate an hypotesis of a sci…

Il bullismo omofobico. Caratteristiche, conseguenze e tipologie di intervento

2018

Bullying is widespread and complex; its causes are many and they need multifactorial explanatory models which take into account various interacting dimensions (individual, family, environment, school). The numerous researches on bullying have outlined the general characteristics and contexts as well as the consequences at the level of impaired development both regarding the bullies that victims. This paper aims to review the literature on a particular form of bullying, less studied, the so called homophobic bullying, in which aggression is directed toward homosexuals boys and girls and to all those who deviate from gender stereotypes, seen as a minority, so different and weaker from many po…
