Langer-Giedion syndrome with interstitial 8q-deletion.

We describe a 12-year-old girl with Langer-Giedion syndrome (tricho-rhino-phalangeal syndrome type II) who also had vertebral malformations. Chromosome analysis identified an interstitial del(8q): 46,XX,del(8)(pter leads to q22::q234 leads to qter) as a cause of this syndrome.

Darbs ir uzrakstīts angļu valodā uz 50 lapaspusēm, satur 37 figūras, 1 tabula un 41 literatūras avotus. Pētījuma mērķis bija novērtēt redzes kvalitāti dalībniekiem ar dažādām izmaiņām acs optiskajās vidēs. Augsta kontrasta redzes asums, mezopiskais redzes asums un kontrastjutība ir labi parametri acs optiskās kvalitātes novērtēšanai. Mezopiskais redzes asums ir ar augstu jutību, lai atklātu dalībniekus ar nelielas pakāpes apduļķojumiem acs optiskajās vidēs (agrīna katarakta). Kontrastjutības tests ir jutīgs uz izmaiņām acs optiskajās vidēs dalībniekiem ar ortokeratoloģijas lēcām. Augsta kontrasta redzes asums ir pietiekami jutīgs uz cita veida izmaiņām acs struktūrās

L'analisi di diversi contributi scientifici evidenzia come le persone con disabilità, sia fisiche che cognitive, siano molto spesso relegate al ruolo di eterni bambini, la cui sessualità viene negata così come la possibilità di accedere ad una relazione sentimentale, spesso perché percepite come inappropriate non solo dai familiari ma anche dagli operatori della salute, favorendo la diffusione di pregiudizi e false attribuzioni. Demographic variables and fathers’ involvement with their child with disabilities

The main purpose of this study is to examine whether fathers’ involvement with their child with disabilities is correlated with some of the demographic variables. Data were collected from 243 Polish fathers who were married and who had at least one child with disabilities. The issue was assessed by two measures: a Questionnaire and the Father Involvement Scale. This article describes a pioneering experience in education - Auxilia Centre for Special Education. This centre provides continuity for the education of children affected by physical disabilities, chronic illness or psychiatric illness and who, because of their illness, are forced to stay at home for certain periods without being able to assume standardized travel to the school at which they are enrolled. The Centre gives them personal and individualized academic service at home to enable their development.
Work-loss years among people diagnosed with diabetes : a reappraisal from a life course perspective

Aims Early exit from the workforce has been proposed to be one of the unfavorable consequences of diabetes. We examined whether early exit from the workforce differed between persons who were and were not diagnosed with diabetes during their work career. Methods The cohort included 12,726 individuals of the Helsinki Birth Cohort Study, born between 1934 and 1944. Using data from nationwide registers, the cohort was followed up from early adulthood until they transitioned into retirement or died.
