Discharge data series of Begura de Salma River (Mallorca, Spain): January 2015-October 2018

2020

Here we provide the data set obtained as described in detail in Estrany et al. (2020, doi:10.5194/nhess-2019-304); a brief description is presented below. A hydrometric gauging station is located where the Begura de Salma River enters Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, a village located in the northeastern part of Mallorca island (Spain). The station was built by the water authority in the 1970s. After years of abandonment, in 2015 the MEDhyCON Research Group installed within the gauge house a Hobo Water Level U20L-04, which measures the water stage by 1-minute readings, accumulating 15-minute average values. The station is located at the very beginning of the concrete channel that takes the river…

Statistical analysis techniques for Partial Discharges measurement under DC voltage

2022

Partial discharges (PD) phenomenon for HVAC (High-Voltage-Alternating-Current) systems has already been widely studied in literature and from this it has been possible to produce a regulatory document that provides indications for description and identification of the different types of discharges. However, the growing diffusion of HVDC (High-Voltage-Direct-Current) systems makes necessary the development of analysis techniques also for DC case. In this paper data obtained from PD measurement under DC voltage were analyzed through the time-frequency map combined with a density-based clustering algorithm. The results show that, with this approach, it's possible to perform a noise rejection a…

Marine Discharges of Offshore Produced Water: the North-East Atlantic Management Strategy

2002

High-frequency electrodeless discharge lamps for atomic absorption analysis

2003

Abstract In this paper we present the results of an investigation of high-frequency electrodeless discharge lamps (HFEDLs), containing Cd, Zn, Hg, As, Te, Se, Pb, Sn, Tl and Bi, developed in our laboratories as light sources for atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). Important physical processes in the lamps are discussed. Essential characteristics of HFEDLs for AAS, such as intensity, stability and operating life are considered. The intensities and detection limits are compared with the corresponding characteristics of hollow cathode lamps. The temporal behavior of an As HFEDL is compared with that of a commercially available electrodeless discharge lamp. Detection limits in graphite furnac…

New Theoretical Solution of Stage-Discharge Relationship for Slit Weirs

2018

In this paper, the flow-process of a slit weir was analyzed on the basis of a theorem of dimensional analysis and incomplete selfsimilarity theory. The theoretically deduced stage-discharge formula then was calibrated using experimental data obtained for a ratio between the weir and the channel width, ranging from 0.05 to 0.25. The deduced stage-discharge relationship allowed measuring discharge values characterized by errors that, for 98% of the measured values, were less than or equal to 5%. The performance of the proposed theoreticalstage-discharge formula also was improved by introducing the Reynolds number (for 98.5% of the measured values the error was less than or equal to 5%, and th…

Time Evolution of Partial Discharges in a Dielectric Subjected to the DC Periodic Voltage

2022

Partial discharge (PD) detection can be considered one of the most useful tools for assessing the insulation conditions of the power apparatus in high-voltage systems. Under AC conditions, this analysis is widely employed in online and offline tests, such as type tests or commissioning, and can be carried out by applying the phase-resolved PD (PRPD) method, since the patterns can give information about the defect classification. Under DC voltages, the classic pattern recognition method cannot be performed, and the measurements show complexities related to the nature of the phenomena. For this reason, to date, a standard for PD measurements under DC does not exist. In previous papers, a new …

Discharge and bed roughness estimation from water level data analysis

2009

Water level data measured at the two ends of a reach are used to compute both the average n Manning roughness coefficient and the discharge hydrograph in the upstream section of the reach. The methodology is first introduced for the simple case of homogenous roughness and large slope, when the kinematic assumption holds for the momentum equation. In the more general case, when subcritical flow can occur along the channel, an approximation of the downstream boundary condition is required to make always identifiable the calibration problem. In this case, the calibration problem is solved by 1) associating to each possible n value the solution of a flow routing problem, with assigned upstream …

Non-Contact Measurement of River Surface Velocity and Discharge Estimation with a Low-Cost Doppler Radar Sensor

2020

River discharge is an important variable to measure in order to predict droughts and flood occurrences. Once the cross-sectional geometry of the river is known, discharge can be inferred from water level and surface flow velocity measurements. Since river discharges are of particular interest during extreme weather events, when river sites cannot be safely accessed, noncontact sensing technologies are particularly appealing. To this purpose, this work proposes a prototype of a low-cost continuous wave (CW) Doppler radar sensor, which is able to monitor the surface flow velocity of rivers. The prototype is tested at two gauged sites in central Italy, along the Tiber River. The surface flow v…

Gender difference in drug use in hospitalized elderly patients.

2015

Purpose The aims of this study were to evaluate whether or not there are gender differences in drug use at hospital admission and prescription at discharge and to evaluate the effect of hospitalization on medication patterns in the elderly. Method In-patients aged > 65 years included in the REPOSI registry during a recruitment period of 3 years (2008-2010-2012) were analyzed in order to evaluate drug use at hospital admission and prescription at discharge according to gender. Results A total of 3473 patients, 52% women and 48% men, were considered. Polypharmacy (> 5 drugs) is more frequent in men both at hospital admission and discharge. At hospital discharge, the number of prescripti…

Climate change impact on SWAT simulated streamflow in western Kenya

2009

12 pages (3/4 p.); International audience; Weather and climate extremes such as droughts and floods have far reaching impacts in Kenya. They have had implications in a variety of sectors including agriculture, water resources, health, energy, and disaster management among others. Lake Victoria and its catchment support millions of people and any impact on its ability to support the livelihoods of the communities in this region is of major concern. Thus, the main objective of this study was to assess the potential future climatic changes on the Nzoia catchment in the Lake Victoria basin, and how they might affect streamflow. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool was used to investigate the impa…
