Events and Trends Control in Diagnostics of Financial Capacity of Transportation Companies

2013

Investigating the impact rendered by financial capacity and its diagnostics efficiency upon the results of a company’s activity is the most important problem of modern management. The standard conventional methods and tools of the financial analysis have remained in the past. The top management of a modern company ever more often reflects on the alternative approaches for an assessment objectively capable of reflecting both the current situation and the near-term threats jeopardizing the company’s activity. One of such approaches is the business value appraisal method from the time perspective. The advantage of this approach is leading properties inherent in the indices. This article studie…

Shall we follow? Impact of reputation concern on information security managers’ investment decisions

2020

Information security (infosec) is important for organizations. While budgeting for infosec is a crucial resource allocation decision, infosec managers may choose to follow other fellow experts’ recommendations or baseline practices. The present paper uses reputational herding theory to explain the decision made by infosec managers to use a “let's follow others” strategy in this context. Based on a sample of 106 organizations in Finland, we find that infosec managers’ ability to accurately predict the benefit of infosec investment, as well as their reputations, have significant effects on motivating them to discount their own information. Infosec managers’ discounting of their own informatio…

The Role of Assumptions in Ohlson Model Performance: Lessons for Improving Equity-Value Modeling

2021

In this paper, we test whether the short-run econometric conditions for the basic assumptions of the Ohlson valuation model hold, and then we relate these results with the fulfillment of the short-run econometric conditions for this model to be effective. Better future modeling motivated us to analyze to what extent the assumptions involved in this seminal model are not good enough approximations to solve the firm valuation problem, causing poor model performance. The model is based on the well-known dividend discount model and the residual income valuation model, and it adds a linear information model, which is a time series model by nature. Therefore, we adopt the time series approach. In…

Implementation of the eHealth Project in Latvia: Project audit perspective

2016

In order to improve effectiveness of provision of healthcare service, the project implemented by the Ministry of Health- ”E-health in Latvia” is a step towards the right direction. It will provide the possibility for patients to ensure a greater control over their health issues, by maintaining healthy habits, lifestyle, increase substantiation of adoption of decisions and speed of service in the healthcare industry, ensuring quality and accessible information; patients will receive more quality services and in a shorter period of time for issuance of prescription drugs. Nevertheless, the policy prepared by the Ministry of Health in the area of e-Health will not be implemented in the planned…

Micro-Economical Aspects of Public Projects: Impact Factors for Project Efficiency and Sustainability

2015

Project management approach in the public administration becoming gradually applied tool for implementation of different public programs and activities. Latvia has several methodological documentations to evaluate the possible benefits from infrastructure but still there is need for improvements as the only clear defined methodology is for transport sectors and those which have been provided by the European commission, but not always have been practically used in local municipalities’ project evaluations. Public projects, and planning for such projects, generally have the following characteristics: • Such projects are inherently risky due to long planning horizons and complex interfaces. • …

Project Management in the Port Development Project in Latvia

2016

Paper analyse case study of performance and compliance audit in the port development project in Latvia. Author has participated in the audit process evaluating project management application practical approach in the project implemented by the Riga Freeport Authority and co-funded by the Cohesion Fund “Development of Infrastructure on Krievu Island for the Transfer of Port Activities from the City Centre”. Despite the mass media reports that the Riga Freeport Authority has successfully completed the project, only the construction phase of the project has been completed. During the following two years the stevedore activity must be transferred to the newly built port infrastructure on Krievu…

The Importance of the Sustainability of the Romanian Convergence Process to the Euro Zone

2018

Abstract Since 2007, Romania has been under the under the glance of experts in the European Union, but also under the strict monitoring of the NBR and also under the pressure of citizens and investors' expectations about the moment of euro adoption. My research concerns have also been channeled to this point of maximum interest, impact and timeliness, which is why I have proposed through this paper to highlight a synthetic situation regarding the fulfillment of the convergence criteria from the moment of accession to the European Union, to the present. The objective of this paper is to reflect, in dynamics and correlation, the degree of fulfillment of the nominal and real convergence criter…

Minimal Dynamic Equilibria

2018

We define dynamic models as multiperiod models with no static representations and demonstrate that current prevalent asset pricing empirical implementations are inconsistent with dynamic equilibria. Specifically, empirical implementations are misspecified with respect to three essential asset pricing questions (TEQ): dependency on higher moments, complexity of risk premia, and mean-variance efficiency of the “market portfolio” (ability to proxy pricing kernels/SDFs). While we already know that “Merton” models, and their derivatives, differ from static models in all TEQ, we show that this is the case even the “minimal” dynamic equilibria.

How Long-Term Contracts can Mitigate Inefficient Renegotiation Arising Due to Loss Aversion

2021

A loss-averse buyer and seller face an uncertain environment. Should they write a long-term contract or wait until the state of the world is realized? I show that simple long-term contracts perform better than insinuated in Herweg and Schmidt (2015), even though loss aversion makes renegotiation sometimes inefficient. During renegotiation, the outcome induced by the long-term contract constitutes the reference point to which the parties compare gains and losses induced by the renegotiated transaction. Whereas Herweg and Schmidt consider that the long-term contract is always performed, it should not in "bad" states. This alters the threat point in renegotiation, making it easier to renegotia…

Does the Spatial Weight Configuration Matter in the Determination of the Effects of Environmental Externalities on Housing Prices?

2012

This paper highlights, from both a theoretical and an empirical point of view, how the choice of neighborhood and spatial weight affects the direct and indirect effects of environmental housing attributes on house price in environmental hedonic models. An original empirical investigation is herein undertaken for the area of the lower Loire estuary (France), in order to illustrate and complement our theoretical analysis. The first thing it shows is that as the radius of the neighborhood increases, the spatial specification changes from the Spatial Durbin to the SLAG model, which could modify the MWTP of the environmental attribute and therefore affect welfare analysis. It shows also that the …
