"Individu et nation" du Centre Interlangues est une collection d'ouvrages publiés en ligne.; Beaucoup d'auteurs ont été inspirés par le mythe de Don Juan et en ont donné leur interprétation. Il semble que Volker Braun intègre, lui aussi, sa version du mythe dans Le roman de Hinze et Kunze.L'analyse prend comme base le livret de Da Ponte du Don Giovanni de Mozart, se concentre sur les trois invariants du mythe relevés par Jean Rousset : l'inconstant, le groupe féminin et la mort, puis tente de dégager le but dans lequel Volker Braun introduit ce mythe dans son roman.

Like most baroque novels, Hinze-Kunze Roman can be read on several levels. First it can be seen as a war of the sexes. On a second level, it can also be read as a Bildungsroman, comparable to all the Aufbauromane written in the fifties. But, on a third level one can also consider Braun's novel as an allegory of East Germany, where each character stands for a specific feature of East German society: Hinze represents the people, Kunze power... And yet another reading also allows one to understand the novel as a narrator-writer's attempt to write a well-executed socialist novel.
