Photogrammetric UAV technologies aimed at monitoring of infrastructures

2022

The research has three key concept: the first one is the application of data analysis using limited data sets to understand historical and future road maintenance interventions; the second one is the application of image based 3D modelling and analysis of pavement distresses; the third one is the application of deep learning to detect and pinpoint pavement distresses

Novel technologies to detect atelectotrauma in the injured lung

2010

ABSTRACTCyclical recruitment and derecruitment of lung parenchyma (R/D) remains a serious problem in ALI/ARDS patients, defined as atelectotrauma. Detection of cyclical R/D to titrate the optimal respiratory settings is of high clinical importance. Image-based technologies that are capable of detecting changes of lung ventilation within a respiratory cycle include dynamic computed tomography (dCT), synchrotron radiation computed tomography (SRCT), and electrical impedance tomography (EIT). Time-dependent intra-arterial oxygen tension monitoring represents an alternative approach to detect cyclical R/D, as cyclical R/D can result in oscillations of PaO2 within a respiratory cycle. Continuous…

Effect of A Healthy Body Image intervention on risk- and protective factors for eating disorders: A cluster randomized controlled trial

2021

Accepted manuscript version, licensed CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. Objective - To investigate the immediate and 12-months effects of a school-based intervention aiming to reduce risk and enhance protective factors for eating disorder development in high school boys and girls. Method - In total, 4,149 adolescents from 30 high schools were eligible for inclusion and 2,446 consented to participate and were randomly allocated to the Healthy Body Image (HBI) intervention or a control group (classes as usual). The HBI intervention is multicomponent consisting of three workshops targeting body image, social media usage and lifestyle. Linear mixed model and intention-to-treat analyses were applied to investiga…

Measuring Public Speaking Anxiety: Self-report, behavioral, and physiological

2021

Self-reports are typically used to assess public speaking anxiety. In this study, we examined whether self-report, observer report, and behavioral and physiological reactivity were associated with each other during a speech challenge task. A total of 95 university students completed a self-report measure of public speaking anxiety before and after the speech challenge. Speech duration (i.e., behavioral measure), physiological reactivity, as well as speech performance evaluated by the participants and observers were also recorded. The results suggest that self-reported public speaking anxiety predicts speech duration, as well as speech quality, as rated by the participants themselves and ob…

The experience of distress during the COVID-19 outbreak: a cross-country examination on the fear of COVID-19 and the sense of loneliness

2020

AbstractObjectivesTo examine gender, age and cross-country differences in fear of COVID-19 and sense of loneliness during the lockdown, by comparing people from countries with a high rate of infections and deaths (i.e. Spain and Italy) and from countries with a mild spread of infection (i.e. Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina).MethodsA total of 3876 participants (63% female) completed an online survey on “Everyday life practices in COVID-19 time” in April 2020, including measures of fear of COVID-19 and loneliness.ResultsMales and females of all age groups in countries suffering from a strong impact of the COVID-19 pandemic reported higher fear of COVID-19 and sense…

Work-to-family conflict and its relationship with satisfaction and well-being: a one-year longitudinal study on gender differences

2004

The present study produced new knowledge about gender differences with respect to work-to-family conflict and its longitudinal relations with indicators of satisfaction and well-being. The study examined the longitudinal relations between work-to-family conflict and self-reported satisfaction and well-being in the domains of work (job satisfaction), family (marital satisfaction, parental distress) as well as overall (psychological and physical) symptoms. Data were obtained from a random sample of Finnish men (n=208) and women (n=218) who were employed and had either a partner or/and children. A survey was conducted at two points in time, in 1999 (Time 1), and one year later, in 2000 (Time 2…

Psychosocial work stressors and well-being: self-esteem and optimism as moderators in a one-year longitudinal sample

2003

The purpose of the present follow-up study was to investigate the roles of self-esteem and optimism in the relationship between psychosocial work stressors and well-being for a sample of Finnish employees (n=457). The data were obtained by means of questionnaires which were completed twice, in 1999 and 2000. The results of the moderated hierarchical regression analyses revealed that low levels of self-esteem and optimism had a direct negative effect on emotional exhaustion and mental distress among men employees. Furthermore, self-esteem moderated the relationships between poor organizational climate and emotional exhaustion and mental distress among male employees. Among female employees o…

Criteria for Selecting Restructuring Strategies for Distressed or Declining Enterprises

2005

This paper seeks to determine the criteria for choosing restructuring strategies for declining or distressed enterprises. First, the paper differentiates between different stages of decline and different levels of distress, of which bankruptcy is an application. Second, it reviews the different forms of restructuring appearing in the academic literature. Third, it formalizes a descriptive model of determining restructuring applicable to distressed and declining enterprises. Specifically, the selection of a restructuring strategy is influenced not only be general restructuring criteria (firm-specific factors, the environment and characteristics of different restructuring) but also by the dec…
