Molecular characterisation of quinolone-resistant Shigella strains isolated in Tehran, Iran.

2016

Over the past few years, the number of Shigella strains resistant to nalidixic acid has increased and has made the selection of effective antimicrobial therapy more difficult. The purpose of this study was to investigate the molecular mechanism of quinolone resistance in Shigella strains. Shigella strains isolated from 1100 diarrhoeal patients in Tehran, Iran, were assessed for their susceptibility to nalidixic acid prior to PCR-RFLP and sequence analysis of their quinolone resistance genes. Among 73 Shigella strains isolated, 23 (31.5%) were resistant to nalidixic acid. The most common Shigella spp. was Shigella sonnei (54; 74.0%). Of the 23 quinolone-resistant isolates, 4 (17.4%) (includi…

Resistance to third-generation cephalosporins in Escherichia coli in the French community: The times they are a-changin'?

2020

Since the early 2000s, Escherichia coli resistance to third-generation cephalosporins (3GCs) has been increasing in all European countries, mainly due to the spread of extended spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs). Here we present a retrospective study that combines resistance of E. coli to 3GCs and quinolones with data on antibiotic use in the community in a region of Northeastern France.Since 2012, an observational surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic use in the community was conducted: data on antimicrobial resistance in E. coli isolates were collected from 11 private laboratories, and consumption data were collected from the three main healthcare insurances.A significant dec…

Precise Somatotopic Thalamocortical Axon Guidance Depends on LPA-Mediated PRG-2/Radixin Signaling

2016

Summary Precise connection of thalamic barreloids with their corresponding cortical barrels is critical for processing of vibrissal sensory information. Here, we show that PRG-2, a phospholipid-interacting molecule, is important for thalamocortical axon guidance. Developing thalamocortical fibers both in PRG-2 full knockout (KO) and in thalamus-specific KO mice prematurely entered the cortical plate, eventually innervating non-corresponding barrels. This misrouting relied on lost axonal sensitivity toward lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), which failed to repel PRG-2-deficient thalamocortical fibers. PRG-2 electroporation in the PRG-2−/− thalamus restored the aberrant cortical innervation. We ide…

La dixi de persona en el discurs acadèmic oral en català

2008

In this article the results of a quantitative and qualitative research into person deixis are shown and, generally, the ones related to the participative inscription, within the oral academic genre of the master class. In order to do so, this discursive genre has been contrasted with colloquial oral conversation and academic prose. The quantitative results include the distribution of the references to the enunciator and to the enunciatary in the three genres (the individual ones, the collective ones and those that allow the participants to avoid direct reference). From the qualitative point of view, the main pragmatic functions that make the deictic expressions of person in the master class…

Spectrophotometric determination of nalidixic and pipemidic acids in a flow injection assembly with a solid-phase reactor as a highly stable reagent …

2001

Abstract The flow-injection spectrophotometric determination of nalidixic (I) and pipemidic (II) acids were carried out by reaction with Fe(III) ions entrapped in a polymeric material and filling a packed-bed reactor; the released Fe(III) complexed with the quinolone is monitored at 426 nm. The method worked with a high reproducibility, even when using different reactors, days and solutions. Selectivity of the procedure was tested with different foreign compounds found in human urine as well as in pharmaceutical formulations containing both quinolones; no relevant interferences were observed. The calibration graph for (I) was linear over the range 1–250 μg ml −1 with a relative standard dev…

Emotivity in Valencian demonstratives

2022

Deficient p27 Phosphorylation at Serine 10 Increases Macrophage Foam Cell Formation and Aggravates Atherosclerosis Through a Proliferation-Independen…

2011

OBJECTIVE: Genetic ablation of the growth suppressor p27(Kip1) (p27) in the mouse aggravates atherosclerosis coinciding with enhanced arterial cell proliferation. However, it is unknown whether molecular mechanisms that limit p27's protective function contribute to atherosclerosis development and whether p27 exerts proliferation-independent activities in the arterial wall. This study aims to provide insight into both questions by investigating the role in atherosclerosis of p27 phosphorylation at serine 10 (p27-phospho-Ser10), a major posttranslational modification of this protein. METHODS AND RESULTS: Immunoblotting studies revealed a marked reduction in p27-phospho-Ser10 in atheroscleroti…

Identification and relevance of the CD95-binding domain in the N-terminal region of ezrin.

2003

The CD95 (Fas/APO-1) linkage to the actin cytoskeleton through ezrin is an essential requirement for susceptibility to the CD95-mediated apoptosis in CD4+ T cells. We have previously shown that moesin was not involved in the binding to CD95. Here we further support the specificity of the ezrin/CD95 binding, showing that radixin did not bind CD95. The ezrin region specifically and directly involved in the binding to CD95 was located in the middle lobe of the ezrin FERM domain, between amino acids 149 and 168. In this region, ezrin, radixin, and moesin show 60-65% identity, as compared with the 86% identity in the whole FERM domain. Transfection of two different human cell lines with a green …

Nalidixic acid-resistant V79 cells with reduced DNA topoisomerase II activity and amplification prone phenotype

1992

Spontaneously nalidixic acid-resistant lines (NAr lines) were selected from a V79 Chinese hamster cell line and phenotypically characterized. NAr lines showed an increased doubling time, a higher number of spontaneous SCE, and more interestingly, decreased DNA topoisomerase II activity. These lines were also cross-resistant to the eukaryotic topoisomerase II inhibitors etoposide and adriamycin, but showed the same level of sensitivity as the parental line to the DNA topoisomerase I inhibitor camptothecin. NAr lines were cross-resistant to other drugs, such as PALA, MTX and MPA, resistance to which has been shown to arise by amplification of the target genes. This last feature, together with…
