The Role of Mental Rigidity and Alcohol Consumption Interaction on Intimate Partner Violence: A Spanish Study

ABSTRACTIntimate partner violence (IPV) has often been linked to alcohol consumption. Alcohol abuse affects cognitive processing through its effects on the prefrontal cortex, generating influence in mental rigidity (MR). This study analyzes the influence of MR as a predisposing factor to violence. The sample consisted of 136 men with a history of IPV. Participants with high MR had lower empathy and perception of the severity of IPV, and higher alcohol consumption and hostile sexism than participants with lower MR. These results should be considered in the development of prevention and intervention programs with the goal of increasing their effectiveness.

The study examined (1) what dimensions of parenting would emerge from retrospective reports of parental behaviour, and (2) whether childhood family violence and parental problems are associated with later perceptions of parenting among 89 young male Finnish inmates. The inmates completed the Parent Behaviour Inventory (PBI) and the Conflict Tactics Scales (CTS). Data on childhood family violence and parental problems were obtained from two files. The PBI yielded three factors and the CTS two factors for both mothers and fathers. This study compares the division of domestic work among dual-career and other dual-earner couples. We examine whether gender attitudes, relative resources and working time explain the differences between dual-career and other dual-earner couples. We define dual-career couples as those in which both spouses are professionals and/or managers. The division of housework is important for these couples because of the intense pressures of work. We hypothesise that domestic work is more equally shared among dual-career couples than among other dual-earner couples. Ābeles ir komerciāli nozīmīgs kultūraugs visā pasaulē, bet ik gadu nozīmīgus bojājumus rada patogēnās sēnes Venturia inaequalis izraisītais ābeļu kraupis. Kraupja ierobežošana pārsvarā balstīta uz intensīvu un regulāru pesticīdu izmantošanu, tādējādi radot negatīvu ietekmi uz vidi un cilvēku veselību. Alternatīva ir izveidot kraupja rezistentas ābeļu šķirnes. Jau novērots, ka monogēna rezistence pret kraupi nav ilgnoturīga un to varētu uzlabot, iekļaujot vairākus rezistences gēnus vienā auga genotipā jeb gēnus piramidējot.
