El declive de las poblaciones de aves granívoras en medios agrícolas en el este de la Península Ibérica

Se estudian las tendencias poblacionales de tres especies de aves granívoras, el gorrión común (Passer domesticus), el jilguero europeo (Carduelis carduelis) y el verderón común (Carduelis chloris), las cuales nidifican en un área agrícola dedicada al cultivo de naranjos en el este de la Península Ibérica. De forma complementaria, también se estudian la abundancia de gorrión común en la provincia de Teruel y las poblaciones reproductoras de verderón común en otras áreas agrícolas situadas en Castellón, Valencia y Alicante. El gorrión común Passer domesticus (Linnaeus, 1758) se encuentra en declive en gran parte de Europa. En España, destaca el caso de la Comunidad Valenciana, área de estudio de esta tesis, con descensos superiores al 95% en zonas rurales y al 70% en zonas urbanas. Las causas del declive en zonas urbanas no son claras. En los pueblos y ciudades de la Comunidad Valenciana se están produciendo importantes procesos de transformación de la estructura urbana que afectan a la disponibilidad y adecuación del hábitat para la especie. Polymorphisms of β-defensin genes in Valle del Belice dairy sheep

The aim of this work was to study β-defensin 1 (SBD1) and β-defensin 2 (SBD2) genes in Valle del Belice dairy sheep in order to identify polymorphisms that can be utilized as markers of the analyzed genes, and search for the functional effects and roles of the identified polymorphisms (variation of the amino acid sequence of the protein and stability of mRNA molecule). The study was conducted on 300 randomly selected animals belonging to four flocks. A total of seven SNPs were identified, two in SBD1 and five in SBD2. This qualitative study investigated talk and interaction as process factors potentially influencing outcomes in abuser group intervention. The findings showed that (a) abusers participate in group programs with considerably different degrees of motivation; (b) the interaction in abusers’ various stages of change is characterized by different qualities; and (c) group counselors face a challenge in adapting their ways of working to abusers’ various needs and backgrounds. The findings demonstrate the importance of attending to the interactional elements in abuser treatment programs and show the value of matching an abuser’s needs and degree of motivation with the timing of interventions. Hemoprotozoa of domestic animals in France: Prevalence and molecular characterization

Very limited information is available on epizootiology of haematozoan infections in French domestic animals. In an attempt to address this issue, prevalence of piroplasmida was studied in carnivores and ruminants, whereas prevalence of Hepatozoon spp. was only investigated in carnivores. In total, 383 animals were included in the survey (namely 116 cats, 108 dogs, 91 sheep and 68 cows). Parasite diagnosis was carried out using molecular methods such as PCR and sequencing of the 18S rRNA gene. In addition, ruminant samples were analyzed with the reverse line blotting technique (RLB).
