Adult neurogenesis participates in fish olfaction sensitivity in response to environmental challenges. Therefore, we investigated if several populations of stem/progenitor cells that are retained in the olfactory bulbs (OB) may constitute different neurogenic niches that support growth and functional demands. Abstract Great advances in biotechnology have allowed the construction of a computer from DNA. One of the proposed solutions is a biomolecular finite automaton, a simple two-state DNA computer without memory, which was presented by Ehud Shapiro’s group at the Weizmann Institute of Science. The main problem with this computer, in which biomolecules carry out logical operations, is its complexity – increasing the number of states of biomolecular automata. Heat shock protein 70 dampens the inflammatory response of human PDL cells to mechanical loading in vitro

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Previously, we demonstrated an inflammatory response of human PDL (hPDL) cells to mechanical loading. The cellular reaction was dampened by heat pre-treatment suggesting a protective role for heat shock proteins (HSP) during stress-induced ischemia. Macrocyclic inhibitors of rhodesain (RD), a parasitic cysteine protease and drug target for the treatment of human African trypanosomiasis, have shown low metabolic stability at the macrocyclic ether bridge. A series of acyclic dipeptidyl nitriles was developed using structure-based design (PDB ID: 6EX8). The selectivity against the closely related cysteine protease human cathepsin L (hCatL) was substantially improved, up to 507-fold. Background: Irrigation of the root canal system is an essential step in the endodontic treatment. The aim of this article is to introduce continuous apical negative-pressure ultrasonic irrigation (CANUI), a new irrigation concept, and compare the characteristics of this new technique with current devices for activating the irrigant. Waardenburg syndrome type I: dental phenotypes and genetic analysis of an extended family

Background: The aim of this study was to describe the pattern of inheritance and the clinical features in a large family with Waardenburg syndrome type I (WS1), detailing the dental abnormalities and screening for PAX3 mutations. Material and Methods: To characterize the pattern of inheritance and clinical features, 29 family members were evaluated by dermatologic, ophthalmologic, otorhinolaryngologic and orofacial examination. Cystic fibrosis (CF) patients develop a severe form of the disease when the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene is affected by nonsense mutations. Nonsense mutations are responsible for the presence of a premature termination codon (PTC) in the mRNA, creating a lack of functional protein.
