Effect of oocyte vitrification on embryo quality: time-lapse analysis and morphokinetic evaluation.

2017

To analyze whether oocyte vitrification may affect subsequent embryo development from a morphokinetic standpoint by means of time-lapse imaging.Observational cohort study.University-affiliated private IVF center.Ovum donation cycles conducted with the use of vitrified (n = 631 cycles; n = 3,794 embryos) or fresh oocytes (n = 1,359 cycles; n = 9,935 embryos) over 2 years.None.Embryo development was analyzed in a time-lapse imaging incubator. The studied variables included time to 2 cells (t2), 3 cells (t3), 4 cells (t4), 5 cells (t5), morula (tM), and cavitated, early, and hatching blastocyst (tB, tEB, tHB) as well as 2nd cell cycle duration (cc2 = t3 - t2). All of the embryos were classifie…

Oral cancer on the gingiva in patients with proliferative leukoplakia: A study of 30 cases

2019

Background Proliferative verrucous leukoplakia, recently coined as proliferative leukoplakia (PL), is associated with a strong tendency to recur after treatment and an elevated rate of malignant transformation. We compared the clinical characteristics of patients with gingival PL with and without progression to oral squamous cell carcinoma. Methods The patients were divided into two groups: group 1 included 33 patients with gingival PL that did not progress to cancer, and group 2 included 30 patients with PL who developed malignant transformation during follow-up. We compared age, sex, tobacco habit, clinical characteristics of gingival PL lesions, and location, tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) …

Preparation prerequisites for effective irrigation of apical root canal : a critical review

2017

Background It is well recognized that disinfection of the complex root canal system at the apical root canal remains the most critical therapeutic measure to treat apical periodontitis. Material and Methods Observational and experimental data in relation to the anatomy of the apical root canal in different tooth types and the cross sectional diameters of the apical part of the most commonly used hand and rotary files are critically reviewed. Results The present data analysis confirm that the challenging issue of antibacterial efficacy of modern preparation protocols in non-surgical endodontics requires more attention to apical root canal irrigation as a balance between safety and effectiven…

Porosity analysis of MTA and Biodentine cements for use in endodontics by using micro?computed tomography

2018

Background The purpose of this study is to compare the porosity of two repair cements, White ProRoot® MTA and Biodentine®. These samples were analyzed by using micro-computed microtomography. Material and methods Sixteen samples were used in the study that were divided according to the composition of the materials used. White ProRoot® MTA (n = 8) and Biodentine® (n = 8) were the samples prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions. They were placed in silicone molds of 5 ± 0.1mm in height and an internal diameter of 5 ± 0.1mm, 24 hours after its preparation, the samples were scanned through a micro-CT, the porosity results were analyzed statistically by independent "t" tests. Resul…

Coronally advanced flap and connective tissue graft with or without plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) in treatment of gingival recession

2017

Background Several researchers have tried to improve the results of gingival recession treatment techniques. One of the methods is to use growth factors The present study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of CAF (coronally advanced flap) + CTG (connective tissue graft) + PRGF (plasma rich in growth factors) in the treatment of Miller Class I buccal gingival recession. Material and methods Twenty-two teeth with Miller Class I gingival recession in 6 patients 26 ‒ 47 years of age were included in a split-mouth designed randomized controlled trial (RCT). In each patient, one side was treated with CAF + CTG + PRGF (test) and the other side was treated with CAF + CTG (control). The following…

2020

As type-I-allergies show an increasing prevalence in the general populace, orthodontic patients may also be affected by histamine release during treatment. Human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (PDLF) are regulators of orthodontic tooth movement. However, the impact of histamine on PDLF in this regard is unknown. Therefore PDLF were incubated without or with an orthodontic compressive force of 2g/cm2 with and without additional histamine. To assess the role of histamine-1-receptor (H1R) H1R-antagonist cetirizine was used. Expression of histamine receptors and important mediators of orthodontic tooth movement were investigated. PDLF expressed histamine receptors H1R, H2R and H4R, but not H3…

Longevity and risk factors of post restorations after up to 15 years: A practice-based study.

2020

Abstract Introduction The aims of this multicenter, practice-based cohort study were to evaluate the success and survival of endodontically treated teeth with post restorations (ETT+Ps) and to analyze factors associated with the longevity of ETT+Ps. Methods Eight general dental practitioners each placed up to 27 ETT+Ps without any restriction to post materials or dimensions. Only incisors, canines, and premolars were included. At the last follow-up visit, ETT+Ps were considered as successful if the post and the initially placed definitive restoration were sufficient, whereas ETT+Ps were considered as survived if the post was still in function. Multilevel Cox proportional hazards models were…

Presence of Trichomonas spp. in oral ulcerations of a patient with kidney transplant. A case report

2020

Mucosal ulcerations are an oral complication that can often affect kidney transplant patients, mostly due to the effect of immunosuppression. It has been frequently reported drug-induced ulceration or lymphoproliferative disorders with buccal manifestations however, some unusual disorders should also be considered, such as fungal infections, viruses, as well as opportunistic infection by other microorganisms. Determining the etiology and differential diagnose from other causes of mouth ulcers is very important for the adequate treatment of said lesion. Dental health of patients should also be taken into the account prior to the transplant surgery, since periodontal pockets are the main nich…

Elongated styloid process evaluation on digital panoramic radiograph in a North Italian population

2017

Background The aim of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of elongated styloid process in digital panoramic radiographs in a North Italian population in relation to age, gender and side. Material and methods This study was performed as a retrospective analysis on digital panoramic radiographs of 600 (271 males and 329 females) Italian patients between 6 and 87 years old. The styloid process length were measured using the measuring tool of Sidexis Software. It was measured from the point where it left the temporal bone plate to its tip. Styloid processes measuring more than 30 mm were considered elongated. Chi-squared and Fisher tests were used and the test is considered significant if …

Role of Thr399Ile and Asp299Gly polymorphisms of toll-like receptor-4 gene in acute dental abscess

2017

Background Apical Periodontitis (AP) is an inflammatory disease that affects the tissues surrounding the root end of a tooth. The disease which is caused by endodontic infections presents in different clinical ways including development of an acute abscess. Recent studies have provided information suggesting role of a multitude of factors in pathogenesis of acute apical abscess (AAA). In this case-control study, our goal was to evaluate the frequency and potential role of two common polymorphisms of toll like receptor-4 (TLR-4) gene; Thr399Ile (1196 C>T) and Asp299Gly (+896 A>G), in 50 patients with AAA as cases and 50 patients with asymptomatic apical periodontitis (AAP) as controls.
