Novel metaphors in literary texts (hereinafter referred to as literary metaphors) seem to be more creative and open-ended in meaning than metaphors in non-literary texts (non-literary metaphors). However, some disagreement still exists on how literary metaphors differ from non-literary metaphors. This chapter contributes to the ongoing discussion about rural belonging by considering the role of historical consciousness (Rüsen, 2004) in the process of belonging in a place. The chapter suggests that young people’s temporal orientation in relation to local culture and history plays a significant role in their commitment to rural communities. The analysis draws on qualitative longitudinal data from Finnish girls, aged 16–19, from two sparsely populated regions (Central Finland and the Northern Finnish Sámi homeland). Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli tutkia aivojen esitietoista muutoksenhavaitsemiskykyä mittaamalla tapahtumasidonnaisia herätevastepotentiaaleja (ERP) elektroenkefalografiassa (EEG), käyttäen ärsyk-keenä emotionaalisia kasvonilmeitä. Tutkimuksessa verrattiin kahden ryhmän: masentuneiden sekä ei-masentuneiden - ERP vasteista. Lisäksi tutkimme psykologisen lyhyt intervention vaikutuksia koehen-kilöiden ERP vasteisiin. Tutkimuksessa käytettiin ärsykkeinä seitsemään universaalia kasvonilmettä, viidessä eri koeasetelmassa. We present a modelling environment based on the use of iconic representations consisting of elements, as containers and connected flows, able to describe the relationships between relevant variables of dynamic systems. The procedures involved are aimed to make students aware of the reasoning processes to describe, formalise and explain complex system behaviours. Aiempien tutkimusten perusteella eri-ikäiset suomalaiset toivovat asumiseltaan samankaltaisia asioita. Yhtenäisiä asumisen toiveita on selitetty kulttuurisidonnaisilla normeilla, jotka perustuvat paitsi virallisiin säädöksiin myös vähitellen normaaleiksi muodostuneisiin käsityksiin. Normit luovat yksilöille ymmärrystä siitä, mitä asumiselta tulisi toivoa. Yleisen ihanteen alle kätkeytyy normeista poikkeavia asumisen toiveita, haaveita ja intohimoja, jotka kytkeytyvät esimerkiksi yksilöiden elämänvaiheeseen, arvoihin ja ikään.
