The essay deals with the deceased donor organ donations and…

Blood Donations and Transfusions during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Spain: Impact According to Autonomous Communities and Hospitals

2021

Worldwide, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a decline in blood donations, between 30% and 70% in some of the most affected countries. In Spain, during the initial eight weeks after the State of Emergency was decreed on 14 March 2020, in the weekly reports of the Health Ministry, an average decrease of 20% was observed between 11 and week 25 compared with the 2018 donation. We aimed to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on blood donations and blood distribution in four autonomous communities, and to explore the evolution of the consumption of blood components (BCs) in ten hospitals of six autonomous communities. We performed a prospective study of grouped cohorts on the donation…

Ab initio calculations of SrTiO3, BaTiO3, PbTiO3, CaTiO3, SrZrO3, PbZrO3 and BaZrO3 (001), (011) and (111) surfaces as well as F centers, polarons, K…

2014

In this paper, the review of recent results of calculations of surface relaxations, energetics, and bonding properties for ABO 3 perovskite (001), (011) and (111) surfaces using mostly a hybrid description of exchange and correlation is presented. Both AO and BO 2-terminations of the nonpolar (001) surface and A , BO , and O terminations of the polar (011) surface, as well as B and AO 3-terminations of the polar (111) surface were considered. On the AO -terminated (001) surface, all upper-layer A atoms relax inwards, while all second layer atoms relax outwards. For the BO 2-terminated (001) surface, in most cases, the largest relaxations are on the second-layer metal atoms. For almost all …

Complexation behaviour of hexadentate ligands possessing N2O4and N2O2S2cores: differential reactivity towards Co(ii), Ni(ii) and Zn(ii) salts and str…

2004

Reactions of divalent metal salts of Co, Ni and Zn with 1,2-di(salicylaldimino-o-phenylthio) ethane (H2L1) and 1,2-di(naphthaldimino-o-phenylthio) ethane (H2L2), having N2O2S2 cores, and 1,2-di(O-salicylaldimino-o-hydroxyphenyl) ethane (H2L3), having a N2O4 core, have been explored. Out of the three ligands and the nine products obtained from the corresponding reactions, two ligands and seven products were crystallographically characterized. However, all the ligands and the products were characterized by analytical and spectral methods. Reaction of H2L1 and H2L2 with Co(II) salts results in oxidative cleavage of the C-S bond to produce a Co(III) product bound to two dissimilar tridentate li…

ChemInform Abstract: Comparative G2(MP2) Molecular Orbital Study of B3H7XH3 and H3BXH3 Donor-Acceptor Complexes (X: N, P, and As).

2010

B3H7XH3 and H3BXH3 (X = N, P, and As) have been studied as donor−acceptor complex type at the G2(MP2) level of theory. Both single- and double-bridged structures of B3H7 Lewis acid are taken into account. Although the double-bridged structure is energetically favored in the isolated state, the coordination prefers the single-bridged one. The monoborane adducts adopt the staggered arrangement with C3v symmetry. The energetic analysis by natural bond orbital theory shows that the decrease of hyperconjugative contribution upon complexation in the B3H7 moiety has, as consequence, a loss of symmetry for B3H7XH3 (X= P and As) complexes. In the two series, the coordination is the result of two opp…

A G2 study of H3BXHn (X=N, O, F, P, S, and Cl) donor–acceptor complexes

1999

Abstract Complexation energies of H3BXHn complexes (X=N, O, F, P, S, and Cl; n=1, 2, 3) have been computed at the G2 level of theory. G2 results show that the H3BXH3 (X=N, P) complexes are more stable than H3BXH2 (X=O, S) and H3BXH (X=F, Cl) ones. This stability was related completely either to the nature of donor compounds, and to the pyramidalization of the monoborane. Two linear correlations were established. The first one is between experimental proton affinity of the XHn donor compounds, and complexation energies of the H3BXHn complexes. The second correlation is between the ∠HBH bond angles and the complexation energies of the H3BXHn complexes calculated at the G2 level of theory.

Synthesis of oxaspiranic compounds through [3 + 2] annulation of cyclopropenones and donor–acceptor cyclopropanes.

2014

The Sc(OTf)3-catalyzed [3 + 2]-annulation reaction between cyclopropenones and donor–acceptor cyclopropanes is described. The process leads directly to the formation of 4-oxaspiro[2.4]hept-1-ene derivatives in good to excellent reaction yields. Density functional theory calculations suggest that the [3 + 2]-annulation pathway is strongly preferred over the possible [3 + 3]-process.

Primary Cytomegalovirus Infection in Seronegative Kidney Transplant Patients Is Associated with Protracted Cold Ischemic Time of Seropositive Donor O…

2017

Human Cytomegalovirus (CMV) can lead to primary infection or reactivation in CMV-seronegative or -seropositive kidney transplant recipients, respectively. Complications comprise severe end-organ diseases and acute or chronic transplant rejection. Risk for CMV manifestation is stratified according to the CMV-IgG-serostatus, with donor+/recipient- (D+/R-) patients carrying the highest risk for CMV-replication. However, risk factors predisposing for primary infection in CMV-seronegative recipients are still not fully elucidated. Therefore, we monitored D+/R- high-risk patients undergoing kidney transplantation in combination with antiviral prophylaxis for the incidence of CMV-viremia for a med…

Psychrotolerant Sulfate-reducing Bacteria from an Oxic Freshwater Sediment Description of Desulfovibrio cuneatus sp. nov. and Desulfovibrio litoralis…

1998

The most abundant culturable sulfate-reducing bacteria were isolated from the littoral sediment of the oligotrophic Lake Stechlin. The strains STL1 and STL4 were obtained from the oxic uppermost layer, while strain STL6 was isolated from the anoxic zone in 20 to 30 mm depth. The isolates showed a striking morphological feature in tapering off at one end of the cell. Physiological characteristics related them to the genus Desulfovibrio. They contained desulfoviridin. H2, formate, pyruvate, lactate, and fumarate were utilized with sulfate, sulfite, thiosulfate, or elemental sulfur as electron acceptors. All isolates were able to reduce oxygen and survived 120 h of aeration. However, aerobic g…
