Crystallization and upconversion luminescence of distorted fluorite nanocrystals in Ba2+ containing oxyfluoride glass ceramics

2016

Abstract In this study novel Er 3+ -doped transparent glass ceramics were prepared from melt-quenched glasses with general composition of Na 2 O-NaF-BaF 2 -YF 3 -Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 . The phase composition of the annealed glass ceramics strongly depends on the BaF 2 content in glass matrix. Crystallization of β-NaYF 4 , cubic fluorite type, tetragonal nanocrystals and rhombohedral Ba 4 Y 3 F 17 was observed. An introduction of BaF 2 in the glass matrix suppresses the crystallization of β-NaYF 4 , promotes the formation of Ba 2+ containing fluoride phases and reduces the cross-relaxation between Er 3+ ions in fluoride crystals. Small rate of the nonradiative processes and low local symmetry of r…

SINTERING OF LEAD-FREE (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 BASED SOLID SOLUTION

2009

ABSTRACT In this study lead-free solid solution (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 was prepared, structure, dielectric parameters of ceramics were investigated. The doping of sintering aids did not affect the crystallographic structure of the ceramics significantly; all ceramic samples had a single-phase perovskite structure. Added elements CdO, ZnO, MnO2, V2O5 effectively decreased the sintering temperature of KNN by 50°–80°C. All sintering aids influenced sinterability, microstructure and dielectric properties of ceramics. Dielectric constant for doped samples increased from 6000 up to 8000; Pr = 15 μC/cm2, Ec = 9 kV/cm, d33 = 110 pC/N, kp = 0.38 and Qm = 190 for MnO2 doped samples.

Electronic structure and thermodynamic stability ofLaMnO3andLa1−xSrxMnO3(001) surfaces:Ab initiocalculations

2008

We present the results of ab initio hybrid density-functional calculations of the atomic and the electronic structures of ${\text{LaMnO}}_{3}$ (LMO) and ${\text{La}}_{1\ensuremath{-}{x}_{b}}{\text{Sr}}_{{x}_{b}}{\text{MnO}}_{3}$ (001) surfaces. The total energies obtained from these calculations were used to analyze thermodynamic stability of the surfaces. We predict Sr and O vacancy segregation to the surface to occur with similar energies ($\ensuremath{\sim}0.5\text{ }\text{eV}$ per defect). In pure LMO only ${\text{MnO}}_{2}$ termination is thermodynamically favorable under typical operational conditions of a cathode in solid oxide fuel cells, whereas Sr doping makes La(Sr)O termination …

Irradiation temperature effects on the induced point defects in Ge-doped optical fibers

2017

We present an experimental investigation on the combined effects of temperature and irradiation on Ge-doped optical fibers. Our samples were X-ray (10 keV) irradiated up to 5 kGy with a dose rate of 50 Gy(SiO2)/s changing the irradiation temperature in the range 233-573 K. After irradiation we performed electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and confocal microscopy luminescence (CML) measurements. The recorded data prove the generation of different Ge related paramagnetic point defects and of a red emission, different from that of the Ge/Si Non-Bridging Oxygen Hole center. Furthermore, by comparing the behaviour of the EPR signal of the Ge(1) as a function of the irradiation temperature with…

Study of the Dielectric Properties of Europium Doped Barium Titanate Ceramics by an Impedance Spectroscopy

2015

The barium titanate (BaTiO3) and the BaTiO3 + 0.1wt.% Eu2O3 ceramics were prepared by a conventional ceramic method. The structural studies were carried out by means of an X-ray diffraction technique. The influence of the grains and the grain boundaries on the electrical properties was investigated using a impedance spectroscopy. This technique enables us to determine the values of grain and grain boundary resistance. The results show that the Eu doping leads to a significant reduction in the resistance value of the grains (˜105Ω) with respect to the pure BT ceramics (˜107Ω). The conductivity processes were determined from the Arrhenius behaviour of grain and grain boundary resistances.

Topography and morphology of multicomponent catalytic materials based on Co, Ce and Pd oxides deposited on metallic structured carriers studied by AF…

2013

A system of interfaced AFM and Raman microscopes was used to study heterogeneity of complex cat- alytic materials providing information on both the topography and the chemical composition of the surface in one measurement. The catalysts surface was examined at various stages of their preparation: precalcination of steel, washcoating, impregnation and doping. It has been shown that the surface of the precalcined steel sheets is covered mostly by -Al 2 O 3 although there are places where -Fe 2 O 3 and Fe 3 O 4 are also present. Washcoating of the precalcined sheets gives only partly uniform grain distribution of CeO 2 . Impregnation with cobalt leads to formation of uniform coverage of Co 3 O…

Tunable dual-wavelength operation of an all- fiber thulium-doped fiber laser based on tunable fiber Bragg gratings

2018

Tunable dual-wavelength emission of a Tm-doped fiber laser based on two fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) is experimentally demonstrated. By using two FBGs with central wavelengths at 2069.30 and 2069.44 nm, stable dual-wavelength laser generation in the 2 ?m wavelength region is achieved by adjusting the differential loss of the two wavelengths in the laser cavity. Strain applied on the FBG allows independent tuning of the simultaneously generated wavelengths with separation between the laser lines in a range from 0.54 to 9 nm. The laser has output power fluctuations less than 0.093% for an output power of 77.3 mW.

Optimization of the carrier concentration in phase-separated half-Heusler compounds

2014

Inspired by the promising thermoelectric properties of phase-separated half-Heusler materials, we investigated the influence of electron doping in the n-type Ti_(0.3−x)Zr_(0.35)Hf_(0.35)NiSn compound. The addition of Nb to this compound led to a significant increase in its electrical conductivity, and shifted the maximum Seebeck coefficient to higher temperatures owing to the suppression of intrinsic carriers. This resulted in an enhancement of both the power factor α^2σ and figure of merit, zT. The applicability of an average effective mass model revealed the optimized electron properties for samples containing Nb. There is evidence in the literature that the average effective mass model i…

Charge Transport Layers Limiting the Efficiency of Perovskite Solar Cells: How To Optimize Conductivity, Doping, and Thickness

2019

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are one of the main research topics of the photovoltaic community; with efficiencies now reaching up to 24%, PSCs are on the way to catching up with classical inorganic solar cells. However, PSCs have not yet reached their full potential. In fact, their efficiency is still limited by nonradiative recombination, mainly via trap-states and by losses due to the poor transport properties of the commonly used transport layers (TLs). Indeed, state-of-the-art TLs (especially if organic) suffer from rather low mobilities, typically within 10(-5) and 10(-2) cm(-2) V-1 s(-1), when compared to the high mobilities, 1-10 cm(-2) V-1 s(-1), measured for perovskites. This work…
