Exploring Training Options for RF Sensing Using CSI

This work analyzes human behavior recognition approaches using WiFi channel state information from the perhaps less usual point of view of training and calibration needs. With the help of selected literature examples, as well as with more detailed experimental insights on our own Doppler spectrum-based approach for physical motion/presence/cardinality detection, we first classify the diverse forms of training so far employed into three main categories (trained, trained-once, and training-free). We further discuss under which conditions it is possible to move toward lighter forms of calibration or even succeed in devising fully untrained model-based solutions. Exceeding the resolving imaging power using environmental conditions

We present two approaches that use the environmental conditions in order to exceed the classical Abbe's limit of resolution of an aperture-limited imaging system. At first we use water drops in order to improve the resolving capabilities of an imaging system using a time-multiplexing approach. The limit for the resolution improvement capabilities is equal to the size of the rain drops. The rain drops falling close to the imaged object act as a sparse and random high-resolution mask attached to it. In EIT, an otherwise absorbing medium is made transparent to a weak coherent field on resonance with a certain atomic transition by applying an intense coherent "driving" field to an adjacent transition. A test of special relativity with stored lithium ions

Laser spectroscopy at the heavy ion storage ring TSR in Heidelberg allows for precision experiments testing the limits of the special theory of relativity. With an opticalΛ-type three-level system of7Li+ the Doppler shift has been measured by saturation spectroscopy as a test of the time dilatation factor γ = (1 −β2)−1/2 at an ion velocity ofυ = 6.4% c. A precision ofΔν/ν < 9 × 10−9 has been obtained, which sets a second-order limit of 1.1 × 10−6 for any deviation from the time dilatation factor. The fourth-order limit of this deviation is set below 2.7 × 10−4 by the present experiment. These limits are given at a 1 σ confidence level.

Non-invasive determination of cardiac output by transesophageal Doppler ultrasound-clinical application and validation

The authors describe the development and validation of a device using transesophageal (TE) Doppler ultrasound to provide continuous and noninvasive monitoring of cardiac output (CO) and related parameters. In intubated and artificially ventilated patients who underwent pulmonary artery catherization for hemodynamic monitoring, CO was determined by the esophageal Doppler ultrasound probe and compared to the results obtained simultaneously by means of thermodilution. A very close correlation was found between the results (r=0.99), with a standard estimate of error less than 5% as well as good reproducibility (r=0.96 and r=0.98). >

A non-stationary one-ring scattering model

This paper introduces a non-stationary one-ring scattering model in which the mobile station (MS) can move along a straight line from the ring's center to the border of the ring. This movement results in a time-variant angle-of-arrival (AOA), which is modeled by a stochastic process. We derive the first-order density of the AOA process in closed form. Subsequently, a closed-form expression is provided for the local power spectral density (PSD) of the channel. Ultrafast optics in coherently spinning molecules

This thesis reports on the study of unidirectional rotation of molecules and focuses on the rotational Doppler effect occuring in the course of third-harmonic generation in coherently spinning molecules.The rotational Doppler effect appears when a circularly polarized wave interacts with an anisotropic rotating object. During the interaction, an exchange of angular momentum and energy between the field and the object occurs, leading to a frequency shift of the wave. Spectral estimators for Doppler analysis of intracoronary ultrasound catheters

With the zero-cross-detection method (ZCD) it has been shown that it is not possible to achieve a reproducible quantitative, and robust evaluation of an inter-coronary audio signal. The authors define spectral estimators to analyze the Doppler-audio signal. Measurements in a blood flow model have shown that the ZCD method underestimates the expected velocity at all speeds. On the Consistency of Non-Stationary Multipath Fading Channels with Respect to the Average Doppler Shift and the Doppler Spread

This paper is concerned with the consistency of non-stationary multipath fading channels. We introduce conditions under which a channel model is consistent w.r.t. the average Doppler shift and the Doppler spread. The conditions are applied to two classes of non-stationary channel models. The first class, which is termed Class A, is characterized by channel models based on an integral relationship between the path phases and the associated time-variant Doppler frequencies. INTEGRAL and RXTE observations of accreting millisecond pulsar IGR J00291+5934 in outburst

2005

Simultaneous observations of the accretion-powered millisecond pulsar IGR J00291+5934 by International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory and Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer during the 2004 December outburst are analysed. The average spectrum is well described by thermal Comptonization with an electron temperature of 50 keV and Thomson optical depth tau_T ~ 1 in a slab geometry. The spectral shape is almost constant during the outburst. We detect a spin-up of the pulsar with nudot=8.4x10E-13 Hz/s. The ISGRI data reveal the pulsation of X-rays at a period of 1.67 milliseconds up to ~150 keV. The pulsed fraction is shown to increase from 6 per cent at 6 keV to 12--20 per cent at 100 keV.
