Dialogicality in teaching process drama : three narratives, three frameworks

This case study explores dialogicality in teaching process drama through the narratives and practices of three experienced drama teachers of the Open University. Dialogue is understood here in the context of ‘I-Thou’ attitude and as the phenomenon of heteroglossia. The analyses of the videotaped reflective interviews with the teachers and process dramas revealed a polyphonic picture of dialogicality in the teaching process, in which juxtapositions of communion and alterity are favoured. These findings may help drama teachers to become more conscious about the challenges and possibilities of generating a fluid and energised dialogicality in process drama. peerReviewed

Tarkastelen tässä tutkielmassa Lost-draamasarjassa (USA 2004–2010) esiintyvää informaation piilottamista. Esittelen sarjasta poimimieni esimerkkien avulla niitä kerronnan keinoja, joiden avulla sarja viivyttää tiedon paljastamista katsojalle. Pohdin myös piilottamisen ongelmia sekä etuja. In this thesis I examine the hiding of information in the drama series Lost (USA 2004–2010). With examples from Lost I explain the narrative devices used in the series to delay the disclosure of information. I also contemplate the pros and cons of such hiding.

Cooperative learning, grouping, flexibility in communication and transformational ways of learning play a very important role in today's learning environments. Future teachers need strong experience in grouping and in the mechanisms that lie beyond the ways people form groups. It is essential to make teacher students familiar with the methods of how to positively influence the atmosphere where pupils are forming groups, communicating and cooperating.
