Proton-antiproton annihilation at rest into two mesons and the quark line rule

Proton-antiproton annihilation at rest into two mesons is analysed in a model describing annihilation by quark lines. The model allows to fit existing data with two parameters. The parameters describe the amplitudes for diagrams with and without rearrangement of quark lines.

Heavy Baryons and electromagnetic decays

In this talk I review the theory of electromagnetic decays of the ground state baryon multiplets with oneheavy quark, calculated using Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory. The M1 and E2 amplitudes for (S^{*}-> S gamma), (S^{*} -> T gamma) and (S -> T gamma)are separately analyzed. All M1 transitions are calculated up to O(1/��_��^2). The E2 amplitudes contribute at the same order for (S^{*}-> S gamma), while for (S^{*} -> T gamma) they first appear at O(1/(m_Q ��_��^2))and for (S -> T gamma) are completely negligible. Non-cancellation of electroweak logarithms in high-energy scattering

We study electroweak Sudakov corrections in high energy scattering, and the cancellation between real and virtual Sudakov corrections. Numerical results are given for the case of heavy quark production by gluon collisions involving the rates $gg \to t \bar t, b \bar b, t \bar b W, t \bar t Z, b \bar b Z, t \bar t H, b \bar b H$. Gauge boson virtual corrections are related to real transverse gauge boson emission, and Higgs virtual corrections to Higgs and longitudinal gauge boson emission. At the LHC, electroweak corrections become important in the TeV regime. Probing transverse quark polarization via azimuthal asymmetries in leptoproduction.

We consider the leading order result for polarized leptoproduction, putting emphasis on transverse momentum dependent effects appearing in azimuthal asymmetries. Measurements of weighted cross sections enable extraction of the distribution of transversely polarized quarks. We focus on the distribution in a longitudinally polarized hadron and estimate the expected asymmetries in leptoproduction.

Quark exchange in deep inelastic scattering

We use a model for baryons that links the constituent structure to the deep inelastic (current) properties. The approach consists in a laboratory partonic description (based on a model of hadron structure), to which a low momentum scaleQ 0 is adscribed, which is evolved to high momenta by means of the renormalization group. A generalization of the model by means of the hadronic quark cluster decomposition, provides a description of the structure functions of nuclei and is the starting point to study the effects that the antisymmetrization at the quark level has on the structure function of a model deuteron. Lepton flavor violation in the Higgs sector and the role of hadronic tau-lepton decays

It has been pointed out recently that current low-energy constraints still allow for sizable flavor-changing decay rates of the 125 GeV boson into leptons, h -> tau ell (ell= e, mu). In this work we discuss the role of hadronic tau-lepton decays in probing lepton flavor violating couplings in the Higgs sector. At low energy, the effective Higgs coupling to gluons induced by heavy quarks contributes to hadronic tau decays, establishing a direct connection with the relevant process at the LHC, pp (gg)-> h -> tau ell. Heavy-quark production and elliptic flow in Au + Au collisions atsNN=62.4GeV

We present measurements of electrons and positrons from the semileptonic decays of heavy-flavor hadrons at midrapidity (|y|< 0.35) in Au+Au collisions at sNN−−−−√=62.4 GeV. The data were collected in 2010 by the PHENIX experiment that included the new hadron-blind detector. The invariant yield of electrons from heavy-flavor decays is measured as a function of transverse momentum in the range 1<peT<5 GeV/c. The invariant yield per binary collision is slightly enhanced above the p+p reference in Au+Au 0%–20%, 20%–40%, and 40%–60% centralities at a comparable level. Search for first generation scalar leptoquarks in pp collisions at s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

We report a search for first generation scalar leptoquarks using 1.03 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions data produced by the Large Hadron Collider at root s = 7 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS experiment. Leptoquarks are sought via their decay into an electron or neutrino and a quark, producing events with two oppositely charged electrons and at least two jets, or events with an electron, missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. Control data samples are used to validate background predictions from Monte Carlo simulation. In the signal region, the observed event yields are consistent with the background expectations. Charge asymmetries of top quarks at hadron colliders revisited

A sizeable difference in the differential production cross section of top- compared to antitop-quark production, denoted charge asymmetry, has been observed at the Tevatron. The experimental results seem to exceed the theory predictions based on the Standard Model by a significant amount and have triggered a large number of suggestions for "new physics". In the present paper the Standard Model predictions for Tevatron and LHC experiments are revisited. This includes a reanalysis of electromagnetic as well as weak corrections, leading to a shift of the asymmetry by roughly a factor 1.1 when compared to the results of the first papers on this subject. Dijets at Tevatron Cannot Constrain SMEFT Four-Quark Operators

We explore the sensitivity of Tevatron data to heavy new physics effects in differential dijet production rates using the SMEFT in light of the fact that consistent and conservative constraints from the LHC cannot cover relatively low cutoff scales in the EFT. In contrast to the results quoted by the experimental collaborations and other groups, we find that, once consistency of the perturbation expansion is enforced and reasonable estimates of theoretical errors induced by the SMEFT series in $\frac{E}{\Lambda}$ are included, there is no potential to constrain four-quark contact interactions using Tevatron data.
