Early warning for VHE gamma-ray flares with the ARGO-YBJ detector

2011

Detecting and monitoring emissions from flaring gamma-ray sources in the very-high-energy (VHE, > 100 GeV) band is a very important topic in gamma-ray astronomy. The ARGO-YBJ detector is characterized by a high duty cycle and a wide field of view. Therefore, it is particularly capable of detecting flares from extragalactic objects. Based on fast reconstruction and analysis, real-time monitoring of 33 selected VHE extragalactic sources is implemented. Flares exceeding a specific threshold are reported timely, hence enabling the follow-up observation of these objects using more sensitive detectors, such as Cherenkov telescopes. All-fibered high-quality low duty-cycle 160-GHz femtosecond pulse source

2008

International audience; In this paper, we report the experimental demonstration of an all-optical fiber-based 160-GHz femtosecond pulse source exhibiting a duty cycle as low as 1/17. The 380-fs wellseparated Gaussian pulses are generated thanks to the strong temporal compression of an initial beat-signal propagating into three distinct segments of optical fiber. Experimental results are supported by numerical simulations based on the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation. (© 2008 by Astro Ltd., Published exclusively by WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA)

Tungsten oxide thin films sputter deposited by the reactive gas pulsing process for the dodecane detection

2015

International audience; The DC reactive magnetron sputtering of a metallic tungsten target was performed in an argon + oxygen atmosphere for depositing tungsten oxide thin films. In order to control the oxygen concentration in the films, the reactive gas pulsing process, namely RGPP, was implemented. Rectangular pulses were used with a constant pulsing period T = 16 s whereas the duty cycle α (time of oxygen injection to pulsing period T ratio) was systematically changed from 0 to 100% of T. This pulsing injection of the reactive gas allowed a gradual evolution of the films composition from pure metallic to over-stoichiometric WO3+ɛ’ compounds. These WOx films were sputter deposited on comm…

Design and Modeling of an Interleaving Boost Converter with Quasi-Saturated Inductors for Electric Vehicles

2020

This paper is focused on the analysis and modeling of DC-DC boost converters in interleaving configuration exploiting inductors in the quasi-saturation region. The converter is designed to optimize the power density by minimizing the size of the inductors. A simulation study for electric vehicle applications is conducted analyzing the effects of duty cycle and temperature variation on the ripple of the input current giving, moreover, information on the performances and dynamics of the converter for further implementation and optimizations.

Long-term monitoring of the TeV emission from Mrk 421 with the ARGO-YBJ experiment

2011

ARGO-YBJ is an air shower detector array with a fully covered layer of resistive plate chambers. It is operated with a high duty cycle and a large field of view. It continuously monitors the northern sky at energies above 0.3 TeV. In this paper, we report a long-term monitoring of Mrk 421 over the period from 2007 November to 2010 February. This source was observed by the satellite-borne experiments Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer and Swift in the X-ray band. Mrk 421 was especially active in the first half of 2008. Many flares are observed in both X-ray and gamma-ray bands simultaneously. The gamma-ray flux observed by ARGO-YBJ has a clear correlation with the X-ray flux. No lag between the X-r…

Synergistic effect of W incorporation and pulsed current mode on wear and tribocorrosion resistance of coatings grown by plasma electrolytic oxidatio…

2019

Ceramic coatings were grown by plasma electrolytic oxidation on 7075 Al alloy using unipolar and bipolar pulsed current waveforms with 20 and 40% cathodic duty cycles, from a silicate-based bath without and with the addition of Na2WO4. Pancake-like morphology was dominant on the coatings grown by unipolar waveform, while the bipolar waveforms promoted volcano-like morphology, increased the roughness of the coating surface and the formation of more compact layers. The coatings produced using the bipolar waveforms provided higher resistances toward both tribocorrosion and dry sliding conditions, while further improvement was achieved by the presence of tungsten. The coatings produced in tungs…
