Temporal incoherent solitons supported by a defocusing nonlinearity with anomalous dispersion

2012

http://pra.aps.org/; International audience; We study temporal incoherent solitons in noninstantaneous response nonlinear media. Contrarily to the usual temporal soliton, which is known to require a focusing nonlinearity with anomalous dispersion, we show that a highly noninstantaneous nonlinear response leads to incoherent soliton structures which require the inverted situation: In the focusing regime (and anomalous dispersion) the incoherent wave packet experiences an unlimited spreading, whereas in the defocusing regime (still with anomalous dispersion) the incoherent wave packet exhibits a self-trapping. These counterintuitive results are explained in detail by a long-range Vlasov formu…

Fast relaxation phenomena and slow mode in extended thermodynamics of superfluids

2003

A macroscopic monofluid model of liquid helium II which is based on extended thermodynamics was formulated in previous works, both in the presence and in the absence of dissipative phenomena. In all these studies, the time evolution of the nonequilibrium stress tensor was neglected, putting the relaxation times @t"0 and @t"2 of the nonequilibrium pressure and of the stress deviator equal to zero. In this work, the time evolution of these fields is not neglected and the complete model with 14 fields is studied, in the linear approximation. The propagation of waves is studied and a dispersion relation of degree 14 is obtained. The solutions of this equation are carried out, perturbing the sol…

Cross-Diffusion Driven Instability in a Predator-Prey System with Cross-Diffusion

2013

In this work we investigate the process of pattern formation induced by nonlinear diffusion in a reaction-diffusion system with Lotka-Volterra predator-prey kinetics. We show that the cross-diffusion term is responsible of the destabilizing mechanism that leads to the emergence of spatial patterns. Near marginal stability we perform a weakly nonlinear analysis to predict the amplitude and the form of the pattern, deriving the Stuart-Landau amplitude equations. Moreover, in a large portion of the subcritical zone, numerical simulations show the emergence of oscillating patterns, which cannot be predicted by the weakly nonlinear analysis. Finally when the pattern invades the domain as a trave…

Vacuum Rabi Splitting and Strong-Coupling Dynamics for Surface-Plasmon Polaritons and Rhodamine 6G Molecules

2009

We report on strong coupling between surface plasmon polaritons (SPP) and Rhodamine 6G (R6G) molecules, with double vacuum Rabi splitting energies up to 230 and 110 meV. In addition, we demonstrate the emission of all three energy branches of the strongly coupled SPP-exciton hybrid system, revealing features of system dynamics that are not visible in conventional reflectometry. Finally, in analogy to tunable-Q microcavities, we show that the Rabi splitting can be controlled by adjusting the interaction time between waveguided SPPs and R6G deposited on top of the waveguide. The interaction time can be controlled with sub-fs precision by adjusting the length of the R6G area with standard lith…

Modelling of Laser Operation in RPE Nd3+:LiNbO3 Channel Waveguides

2006

In this work, laser action in RPE Nd3+:LiNbO3 is modelled by using the overlapping integrals method. Different pumping schemes, TE or TM, have been considered in order to reproduce the experimental measurements. Calculated results indicate that the slope efficiency remains basically independent on the pumping scheme while the threshold pump power increases for TE pumping.

Structure of longitudinal chromomagnetic fields in high energy collisions

2014

We compute expectation values of spatial Wilson loops in the forward light cone of high-energy collisions. We consider ensembles of gauge field configurations generated from a classical Gaussian effective action as well as solutions of high-energy renormalization group evolution with fixed and running coupling. The initial fields correspond to a color field condensate exhibiting domain-like structure over distance scales of order the saturation scale. At later times universal scaling emerges at large distances for all ensembles, with a nontrivial critical exponent. Finally, we compare the results for the Wilson loop to the two-point correlator of magnetic fields.

Well-posedness of Prandtl equations with non-compatible data

2013

In this paper we shall be concerned with Prandtl's equations with incompatible data, i.e. with initial data that, in general, do not fulfil the boundary conditions imposed on the solution. Under the hypothesis of analyticity in the streamwise variable, we shall prove that Prandtl's equations, on the half-plane or on the half-space, are well posed for a short time.

Two-Perfect Fluid Interpretation of an Energy Tensor

1990

The paper contains the necessary and sufficient conditions for a given energy tensor to be interpreted as a sum of two perfect fluids. Given a tensor of this class, the decomposition in two perfect fluids (which is determined up to a couple of real functions) is obtained.

LA CICOGNA BIANCA CICONIA CICONIA (Aves Ciconiidae) IN SICILIA: AGGIORNAMENTO A TRENT'ANNI DALLA COLONIZZAZIONE

2020

Numerical and analytical analysis of a monopile-supported offshore wind turbine under ship impacts

2021

Abstract Offshore wind turbines in the vicinity of ship traffic are exposed to increased risks of ship collisions. To better understand the impact mechanism, this paper evaluates the dynamic responses of a monopile-supported wind turbine under ship impacts, using both numerical and analytical methods. The nonlinear finite element method is applied during the numerical simulations, and the wind load effects, soil conditions, and rigid and deformable ship bows are considered. The analytical approach, originally developed based on the energy method, is extended here to address the damping effects of monopile-supported wind turbines. In the case study, the impacts are studied between a 4600-ton…
