Predictors of diuresis response to levosimendan administration in patients with acute heart failure

2021

Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Levosimendan, a calcium sensitizer and potassium channel-opener, is appreciated  for its effects on systemic and pulmonary hemodynamic and for the relief of symptoms in acute heart failure (AHF). Positive effects of levosimendan on renal function have been also described. The aim of the present analysis was to assess the predictors of the diuresis response to levosimendan administration in high risk acute heart failure patients. Methods We analysed 34 consecutive patients admitted with high risk AHF to one centre and treated in intensive cardiac care unit. Levosimendan was administered on top of other treatment as a 24-hour in…

Normalwerte für die Dobutamin-Streßechokardiographie*

2008

UNLABELLED Dobutamine stress echocardiography having established itself as a sensitive method for diagnosing coronary heart disease, even in the absence of normative values, the physiological haemodynamics as well as the physiological values for global and regional left ventricular myocardial function were measured. TEST PERSONS AND METHODS 14 healthy subjects (ten men, four women; median age 25 [range 21-32] years) underwent dobutamine stress echocardiography according to an internationally practised dosage steps protocol (5-40 micrograms/kg/min with additional 0.5 mg atropine at 40 micrograms). RESULTS Maximal infusion rate achieved a serum dobutamine level of 1.67 micrograms/ml with mini…

Hemodynamic Effects of Ventricular Pacing

1985

Fixed rate ventricular pacing is used in most cases of implanted pacemakers. It does not usually create considerable hemodynamic problems, as the heart, by its adaptation mechanism, is capable of varying its pump performance to meet the metabolic needs[1,3].

Zur Diagnostik atherosklerotischer Läsionen der extrakraniellen Arteria carotis mit Duplexsonographie und IA-DSA

1990

Fifty patients were studied prospectively. The extracranial portions of the carotid arteries were examined by duplex sonography and IA-DSA in order to demonstrate haemodynamically significant stenoses or plaques which might give rise to emboli and the findings compared with the pathologic specimens. The results indicate high sensitivity (up to 90%) for more than 75% detection of stenoses. On the other hand ulceration was diagnosed sonographically with an accuracy of 66% and plaque hemorrhage with an accuracy of 56%.

Indirect estimation of stomach volume of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum)

2005

The main hypothesis of this study was that if stomach volume is correlated with food intake it can be estimated without laborious and destructive direct measurement. Rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), ca. 500^1300 g, were starved for 1, 4, 8 or16 days at151C after which they were fed in excess with dry pellets containing known amounts of X-raydense markers. Immediately after feeding the ¢sh were killed, X rayed and weighed. Then the stomach was dissected, its contents removed and weighed, and stomach volume was measured. X-ray plates were developed and feed intake was estimated based on the amount of marker. All measured variables correlated positively with stomach volume. The be…

Resistance Training with Blood Flow Restriction Compared to Traditional Resistance Training on Strength and Muscle Mass in Non-Active Older Adults: A…

2021

Low-intensity training with blood flow restriction (LI-BFR) has been suggested as an alternative to high-intensity resistance training for the improvement of strength and muscle mass, becoming advisable for individuals who cannot assume such a load. The systematic review aimed to determine the effectiveness of the LI-BFR compared to dynamic high-intensity resistance training on strength and muscle mass in non-active older adults. A systematic review was conducted according to the Cochrane Handbook and reportedly followed the PRISMA statement. MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science Core Collection, and Scopus databases were searched between September and October 2020. Two reviewers independently se…

A coronary right fistula canalized in a small accessory right atrial chamber.

2007

The coronary artery fistulas are rare congenital anomalies with a very low incidence. These can be symptomatic or asymptomatic because the hemodynamic consequences of the fistula vary and depend on the shunt dimensions. Discordant opinions instead are present in the literature for the defect closing in asymptomatic patients. Here, we describe a patient affected by a coronary right fistula canalized in a small accessory right atrial chamber. During follow-up, we observed a progressive dilatation of the right coronary artery (maximum diameter 10.3 mm) with hemodynamic overload of the right sections.

Differential impact of syncope on the prognosis of patients with acute pulmonary embolism: a systematic review and meta-analysis

2018

Aims Controversial reports exist in the literature regarding the prognostic role and therapeutic implications of syncope in patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE). We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the association between syncope and short-term adverse outcomes, taking into account the presence or absence of haemodynamic compromise at acute PE presentation. Methods and results The literature search identified 1664 studies, 29 of which were included for a total of 21 956 patients with PE (n = 3706 with syncope). Syncope was associated with higher prevalence of haemodynamic instability [odds ratio (OR) 3.50; 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.67-4.58], as well…

Quantification of myocardial blood flow and blood flow reserve in the presence of arterial dispersion: A simulation study

2002

Myocardial blood flow (MBF) can be quantified using dynamic T1-weighted MRI of diffusible tracers and a mathematical model of underlying vasculature. Quantification of MBF by means of T1- weighted MRI requires knowledge of the arterial input function (AIF). The AIF can be estimated from the left ventricular (LV) cavity. However, dispersion may occur between the LV and the tissue of interest because of the laminar blood flow profiles, branching of venules, and because of stenosis. To evaluate the influence of dispersion on the results of MBF quantification, a simulation study was performed. The dispersion was described as a convolution of the AIF with an exponential residue function. Synthet…
