Random mechanisms including mutations are an internal part of evolutionary algorithms, which are based on the fundamental ideas of Darwin's theory of evolution as well as Mendel's theory of genetic heritage. In this paper, we debate whether pseudo-random processes are needed for evolutionary algorithms or whether deterministic chaos, which is not a random process, can be suitably used instead. Approximating hidden chaotic attractors via parameter switching.

In this paper, the problem of approximating hidden chaotic attractors of a general class of nonlinear systems is investigated. The parameter switching (PS) algorithm is utilized, which switches the control parameter within a given set of values with the initial value problem numerically solved. The PS-generated attractor approximates the attractor obtained by averaging the control parameter with the switched values, which represents the hidden chaotic attractor. The hidden chaotic attractors of a generalized Lorenz system and the Rabinovich-Fabrikant system are simulated for illustration. Periodic solutions of a class of non-autonomous second order differential equations with discontinuous right-hand side

Abstract The main goal of this paper is to discuss the existence of periodic solutions of the second order equation: y ″ + η sgn ( y ) = α sin ( β t ) with ( η , α , β ) ∈ R 3 η > 0 . We analyze the dynamics of such an equation around the origin which is a typical singularity of non-smooth dynamical systems. The main results consist in exhibiting conditions on the existence of typical periodic solutions that appear generically in such systems. We emphasize that the mechanism employed here is applicable to many more systems. In fact this work fits into a general program for understanding the dynamics of non-autonomous differential equations with discontinuous right-hand sides.

Flaring activity on the disk of Classical T Tauri Stars: effects on disk stability

Classical T Tauri Stars (CTTSs) are young stellar objects surrounded by a circumstellar disk with which they exchange mass and angular momentum through accretion. Despite this process is a crucial aspect of star formation, some issues are still not clear; in particular how the material loses angular momentum and falls into the star. About the evaluation of the local kinetic, potential and total energy densities in closed-shell interactions

Abstract The local kinetic G( r ) , potential V( r ) and total E( r ) energy densities, calculated at the critical points of 37 H⋯F closed-shell interactions by quantum mechanical methods, have been compared to their estimated values obtained by using an approximate evaluation of G( r ) and the local form of the virial theorem. The results presented here show very small differences between the corresponding quantities, and therefore support the validity of the estimations. Electrohydrodynamic instabilities and orientation of dielectric ellipsoids in low-conducting fluids.

We study the dynamics of an ellipsoidal particle in a weakly conducting dielectric liquid when submitted to a dc electric field. At low field intensities, the particle long axis is aligned in the field direction. When the field strength is increased, we show that, depending on the initial orientation of the particle, there exist two stable orientations: the one with the long axis parallel to the field direction remains possible while a spinning state with the long axis perpendicular to the field appears. Cooperative effects in ligand binding and dissociation kinetics are much less investigated than steady state kinetics or equilibrium binding. Nevertheless, cooperativity in ligand binding leads necessarily to characteristic properties with respect to kinetic properties of the system. Results of Numerical Modeling of Blood Flow in the Internal Jugular Vein Exhibiting Different Types of Strictures

The clinical relevance of nozzle-like strictures in upper parts of the internal jugular veins remains unclear. This study was aimed at understanding flow disturbances caused by such stenoses. Computational fluid dynamics software, COMSOL Multiphysics, was used. Two-dimensional computational domain involved stenosis at the beginning of modeled veins, and a flexible valve downstream. Conscious and unconscious identification of female anorectic patients in in-patient psychotherapy

Women are up to ten times more likely to develop anorexia nervosa (AN) than men. Psychoanalytic explanations of this disparity generally emphasize female identification problems due to unresolved conflicts with maternal representations. Based on clinical observation, we identify a subtype of AN patients characterized, first, by consistent idealization of the father who needs the patient for the fulfilment of his own narcissistic needs and, second, by the patient's need to be idealized by the father due to suffering in connection with early emotional malnutrition on the part of the mother.
