Effect of a Service-Learning Program on the Active Lifestyle of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Pilot Study
2020
Background: active lifestyles and Physical Activity (PA) are closely related to health. Healthy habits such as being physically active should be consolidated during childhood. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) present fewer opportunities to be involved in PA. For this reason, we conducted a Service-Learning (SL) program to enhance the possibility of participating ASD children enjoying PA sessions. The aim of this study was to analyze and describe the evolution in terms of the frequency and intensity of PA performed by ASD children who participated in the SL program. Methods: we used a quasi-experimental design. The sample was formed by 26 children with ASD (Experimental group: n…
Il digitale nell'educazione: ambienti, dispositivi, apprendimenti
2014
The Application of Optimal Topic Sequence in Adaptive e-Learning Systems
2016
In an adaptive e-learning system an opportunity to choose a course topic sequence is given to ensure personalization. The topic sequence can be obtained from three sources: teacher-offered topic sequence that is based on teacher’s pedagogical experience; learner’s free choice that is based on indicated links between topics, and, finally, the optimal topic sequence acquisition method described in this article. The optimal topic sequence is based on previous learners’ experience. With the help of the optimal topic sequence method, data about previous learners’ course topic sequence and course results are obtained. After the data analysis the optimal topic sequence for the specific course is o…
A Conversational Agent Based on a Conceptual Interpretation of a Data Driven Semantic Space
2005
In this work we propose an interpretation of the LSA framework which leads to a data-driven “conceptual” space creation suitable for an “intuitive” conversational agent. The proposed approach allows overcoming the limitations of traditional, rule-based, chat-bots, leading to a more natural dialogue.
Investigative decision making : the use of storytelling in e-learning for training police students
2019
Master's thesis Multimedia and Educational Technology MM500 - University of Agder 2019 Purpose–“E-learning is not intended to replace the traditional classroom setting, but to provide new opportunities for interaction and communication between students and instructor or teacher” (Zhang et al., 2004). The thesis aimed at discussing this phrase as the major problem statement.Design/methodology/approach–For this research, case study research method with the InstructionalDesign (ID) process was the chosen design and method for designing and consequently developing an e-learning solution. The case study research method with the ID process was found to support the design and development of a succ…
Impact of the knowledge society in the university and in scientific communication
2014
Over the last two decades, as a result of the introduction and intensive use of technologies for information and general knowledge, especially from the internet, the university is living in a process of complete transformation that affects it´s academic and organizational structures as well as the conception of educational methodology. The ICTs have demonstrated a need to establish coherent institutional strategies in their use and application, along with the possibility to expand the sphere of institutional action, in regards to general access to higher education. All of this shows an existing change from a model of education based on the transmission of knowledge, that was rather limited …
Skill learning during an asynchronous music e-learning module
2023
Learning musical skills is often associated with face-to-face teaching. Few studies on musical skill learning through asynchronous e-learning have been conducted; however, the demand for e-learning has increased due to multiform learning and individual education paths, unrestricted by time and place. This demand is the basis of this research. The focus of this study is Finnish classroom teacher students’ skill learning, learning processes, and learning experiences, while studying music independently through e-learning. The research method is an intensive case study with six students. Their learning diaries were analysed using a data-driven content analysis. Background factors were musical i…
Improving quality in clinical placement studies in nursing homes (QUALinCLINstud):the study protocol of a participatory mixed methods multiple case s…
2020
IntroductionImproved quality in clinical supervision and assessment of student nurses in nursing home clinical placements is vitally important to effective recruitment and preparation for this healthcare sector. Knowledge regarding supervision and assessment practices within these settings is limited. Also, knowledge of evolving e-learning tools on the quality and effectiveness of these educational practices seems to be absent. Methods and analysisThe aim of the “Improving quality in clinical placement studies in nursing homes” (QUALinCLINstud) study is to develop and evaluate how a web-based programme can optimise supervision, assessment and learning during nursing home placements. The stud…
Itinerarios De M-Learning en La Educación Universitaria
2015
In recent years, mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops allow immediate connection and content exchange among people "anytime, anywhere" (Park S.Y., et al. 2012). 'Ubiquitous learning’ becomes very important in higher and university education also in order to emphasize the educational paths’ design and maximize students’ learning opportunities. At this regard, it‘s interesting to consider the assumptions of the connectivism theory (Siemens, 2005) as a theoretical reference for the e-learning design. For verifying these assumptions and clarifying whether Italian teachers and students share them, we conducted this research. This empirical study aims to grasp what type of mobile…
