Empirical evaluation of home-based reablement: A review

2021

Home-based reablement (HBR) aims to restore or increase patients’ level of functioning, thereby increasing the patients’ self-reliance and consequently decreasing their dependence on healthcare services. To date, the evidence on whether HBR is an efficient method has not been comprehensively reviewed. The aim of this study was to provide a concise summary of relevant existing findings. In addition, we provide a critical constructive assessment of the publications reflecting the extant research.  The relevant literature on this topic was identified through a systematic search of appropriate databases. Thereafter, we screened the studies, first by title, followed by abstract and then by asses…

From imprecise actions to imprecise preference modelling : the case of non orders

1996

This study deals with imprecise preference modelling. It is based on a set of vague actions on which choices are operated by actors whose discriminating power is not precise. Indeed, the information being imprecise, the actors have but limited and relatively indeterminate knowledge of the basis of their preferences. This results in vague preferences the expression of which are the structures of imprecise preference (imprecise non orders) and the particular ones of relatively indeterminate preference (relatively indeterminate non orders). The shift from the former structures to the latter corresponds to a process of preference maturation and decision structuration inspite of an imprecise con…

The foundations of the new theories in health economics

1997

In health economics, theoretic approaches such as the theory of contracts, the economy of conventions, the theory of transaction costs and the evolutionary theory, have been applied recently. The present paper offers a classification of these different theories focusing on their epistemological foundations. The clarification of their assumptions about individual rationality (substantial or procedural rationality), about coordination modality (by inter-individual contracts or collective rules), about uncertainty (probabilistic risk or cognitive uncertainty), shows oppositions between these theories. Nevertheless, the application of these different theories in health economics shows that they…

Research and development expenditure in France : an analysis by sector

1996

Not so different altogether: Putting Lean and sociotechnical design into practice in a process industry

2021

Purpose: The shop-floor organization under lean production (LP) has been hotly debated for about three decades. As this organization concept leaves considerable room for interpretation, the content of lean-inspired changes can vary widely. This paper pleads for a contingency view of how LP is implemented and how the outcomes of lean-inspired changes rely on users’ interpretations of the concept in particular production contexts.Design/methodology/approach: A case study was conducted in two large Norwegian chemical plants. Data from the observations and interviews were supplemented by interviews with top managers in 2017 and 2018. The first author also followed a management audit in one plan…

Bounded Computational Capacity Equilibrium

2010

We study repeated games played by players with bounded computational power, where, in contrast to Abreu and Rubisntein (1988), the memory is costly. We prove a folk theorem: the limit set of equilibrium payoffs in mixed strategies, as the cost of memory goes to 0, includes the set of feasible and individually rational payoffs. This result stands in sharp contrast to Abreu and Rubisntein (1988), who proved that when memory is free, the set of equilibrium payoffs in repeated games played by players with bounded computational power is a strict subset of the set of feasible and individually rational payoffs. Our result emphasizes the role of memory cost and of mixing when players have bounded c…

True prices, latent prices and the Ghosh model : some inconsistencies

2001

Beside the traditional Leontief demand-driven model, there is the Ghosh supply-driven model. This paper explores the typology of the possible models: demand driven models versus supply driven models, true prices versus latent (or index) prices, coefficients in physical terms versus coefficients in value. This demonstrates that the supply-driven model offers results of limited interest, being incapable to separate quantities and prices; and it is only when a very strange hypothesis is chosen -- demand prices, controlled by the buyer -- that the supply-driven model gives an interesting result with a separation between quantities and prices in the solution, becoming the dual of the Leontief mo…

Sraffa, Wittgenstein y Gramsci

2016

Two distinct but interrelated issues are investigated here. The first concerns Sraffa's critical role in contemporary philosophy through his pivotal influence on Wittgenstein. The intellectual origins of this profound influence can be traced to the philosophical interests of the activist political circle in Italy (clustered around the journal L'Ordine Nuovo) to which both Sraffa and Antonio Gramsci belonged. The second inquiry concerns the influence of Sraffa's philosophical views on his economics. Sraffa's economic contributions can be much better understood by paying attention to the way Sraffa changed the nature of the questions asked, rather than seeking different answers to already est…

Economic theory and space : a reconciliation

1997
