Skill-Based Scouting of Open Management Content
2010
Already existing open educational resources in management have a high potential for enterprises to address the increasing training needs of their employees. However, access barriers still prevent the full exploitation of this potential. Users have to search a number of repositories with heterogeneous interfaces in order to retrieve the desired content. In addition, the use of search criteria related to skills, such as learning objectives and skill-levels is in most cases not supported. The demonstrator presented in this paper addresses these shortcomings by federating multiple repositories, integrating and enriching their metadata, and employing skill-based search for management related con…

Measuring innovation in tourism from the Schumpeterian and the dynamic-capabilities perspectives
2012
This paper offers a diagnosis of the “state of the issue” regarding the measurement of innovation in the tourism industry at the company level, and some recommendations for overcoming identified problems. The study addresses two central issues: how existing secondary databases of innovative activity define the boundaries of the tourism industry, and the degree to which these databases reflect the particular characteristics of this economic activity. It is concluded that these analyses present serious biases and anomalies hindering the understanding of the situation at the micro level and complicating the issue of international comparability, and the analyses do not capture the internal hete…
Detection of respiratory viral infections in neonates treated for suspicion of nosocomial bacterial sepsis: a feasibility study.
2013
There is a lack of knowledge concerning the frequency and significance of respiratory viral infections that occur in the neonatal intensive care unit. In the present study, all neonates with suspected nosocomial bacterial sepsis were screened for a panel of respiratory viruses. Respiratory viral infections were detected in 10% of these cases. This was comparable with the frequency of a blood-culture-proven sepsis.
Intelligibility in microbial complex systems: Wittgenstein and the score of life
2012
Knowledge in microbiology is reaching an extreme level of diversification and complexity, which paradoxically results in a strong reduction in the intelligibility of microbial life. In our days, the “score of life” metaphor is more accurate to express the complexity of living systems than the classic “book of life.” Music and life can be represented at lower hierarchical levels by music scores and genomic sequences, and such representations have a generational influence in the reproduction of music and life. If music can be considered as a representation of life, such representation remains as unthinkable as life itself. The analysis of scores and genomic sequences might provide mechanistic…

Explaining failures in innovative thought processes in engineering design
2012
Abstract The aim of this study is to explore factors causing failures in innovative thought processes in engineering design. An innovation process is here understood as a complex and multi-phased thinking and problem solving process generating new and mostly unforeseeable solutions. The phases are partly overlapping and simultaneous. This complicated nature of innovation process demands a lot from innovation management, and thus it is not unusual that innovation processes fail. Identifying problems and shortcomings is important because it helps organizations to eliminate them in the future. This study focus on thought processes of individual participants in an innovation process, which is r…
PEMANFAATAN HEWAN SEBAGAI OBAT TRADISIONAL DALAM KEHIDUPAN SUKU HATTAM DI KAMPUNG MOKWAM MENYAMBOUW
2008

This research aim to document traditional knowledge (indigenous knowledge) of the Hattam tribe in exploiting animals as traditional drug, in which the observation was done on the animal type, way of exploiting, and also on other culture and knowledge related to pattern of exploiting animals as drug in the life of the tribe. The result shows that there are 9 animals used as traditional drug in the life of the Hattam tribe in Mokwam village, that is: Rana grisea, Litoria arfakiana, Litoria micromembrana, Litoria angiana, Nyctimystes pulchra, Accipiter sp., Morelia viridis, Micropechis sp., and Sus sp. The animals were used as drugs to cure skin disease (purities), bloated, …
ZnO and ZnO:Ga Ceramics for Advanced Scintillators
2020
The undoped ZnO reveals narrow luminescence bands located close to fundamental absorption edge, known as near band luminescence (NBL) and defects related wide luminescence band within visible range of spectrum. NBL decay is in sub-nanosecond range and it is promising for fast scintillator development. However, the defects luminescence decay is in microsecond range and it is disturbing for fast scintillators. Dopants strongly change the luminescence properties, mainly the intensity and decay time and that is the cause for intense study of doped ZnO luminescence properties. Thus the study of luminescent properties of undoped ZnO and doped ZnO:Ga ceramics was carried out. The dependence of the…
Migration for Knowledge. A Circumnavigation Between West andEast
2020
Migration of men has always been accompanied by a migration of knowledge, whether scientific or related to the tradition to which they belong. This article aims to highlight the transition of Greek sophia from the West to Persia and from Baghdad to the East. A movement of thought analyzed by Muslims experts and translators during the Middle Age. The process of translation and transmission of knowledge will accomplish an opposite periplus during the Napoleonic era, going back from the West to the Arab world. This process will give birth to the nahḍa phase, which is the cultural and literary awakening that will bring the Islamic countries living under the European colonization to meet and int…
