Verschiedene Opioide beim kardiovaskulren Risikopatienten
1994
Efficient analgesia may be the major objective in the cardiovascular risk patient following myocardial infarction, acute occlusion of peripheral vessels, or dissection/perforation of major abdominal vessels. It was the purpose of the study to investigate the haemodynamic and respiratory side effects of eight different opioids in 57 circulatory risk patients prior to major vascular surgery. Methods. Patients were randomly allocated to eight groups, each receiving a different opioid within a clinical, equipotent dose range (buprenorphine, fentanyl, morphine, nalbuphine, pentazocine, pethidine, tramadol, alfentanil). A complete haemodynamic and blood gas status was obtained prior to as well as…
FAST EDGE-FILTERED IMAGE UPSAMPLING.
2011
We present a novel edge preserved interpolation scheme for fast upsampling of natural images. The proposed piecewise hyperbolic operator uses a slope-limiter function that conveniently lends itself to higher-order approximations and is responsible for restricting spatial oscillations arising due to the edges and sharp details in the image. As a consequence the upsampled image not only exhibits enhanced edges, and discontinuities across boundaries, but also preserves smoothly varying features in images. Experimental results show an improvement in the PSNR compared to typical cubic, and spline-based interpolation approaches.
Instruction of Digital Reading Strategies Based on Eye-Movements Modeling Examples
2018
During the last decade, several studies have proposed and tested different instructional methods for teaching digital reading strategies to young students. In this study, we have tested the effectiveness of a program combining eye-movements modeling examples (EMMEs) and contrasting cases to instruct ninth-grade students how to plan, evaluate, and monitor their digital reading. EMMEs are videos that display a dot representing the eye movements of a model and an oral transcription of her thoughts while answering a specific question in a hypertext. Students in the EMME condition obtain higher comprehension scores in a posttest performed 1 week after the instruction, as compared with a control…
Environmental learning in regions: a social capital based approach. The case of Latvia
2016
AbstractHow do people learn about the environment and behave accordingly? What is the cognitive process at the base of this learning mechanism? The present paper is a pilot work investigating the dynamics of individual environmental knowledge on the basis of social capital theory. Using Tsai and Ghoshal’s findings, a well known framework widely accepted in organizational studies which supports the existence of a relationship between structural, relational and cognitive dimensions of social capital, and between social capital and knowledge exchange, these dynamics are then tested in the context of environmental behaviour studies. The quantitative analysis is carried out by means of a structu…
A Conversational Agent Based on a Conceptual Interpretation of a Data Driven Semantic Space
2005
In this work we propose an interpretation of the LSA framework which leads to a data-driven “conceptual” space creation suitable for an “intuitive” conversational agent. The proposed approach allows overcoming the limitations of traditional, rule-based, chat-bots, leading to a more natural dialogue.

Significance of Supplier Selection Criteria Evolvement in IT Outsourcing to Emerging Economies - Lessons from a Global IT Outsourcing Project
2015
In line with the increasing significance of the acceleration of information technology (IT) advancement and also of harnessing the vigor of emerging economies, IT outsourcing to emerging economies has become global concerns. This enables global companies to enjoy a critical competitive edge by choosing the best option in outsourcing strategy and supplier selection. Consequently, supplier selection criteria have become critical issues for both suppliers and customers. This paper attempts to provide insightful suggestions to these issues. An empirical analysis was conducted taking supplier selection criteria evolvement in global IT outsourcing project focusing on action research in a multinat…
Liikkeenjohdon konsultointi - nuori ja kasvava toimiala
1999
Liikkeenjohdon konsultoinnin professionaalistumista on Suomessa tutkittu vuosikymmenen puolivälissä. Tutkimuksen mukaan ala on nuori ja vain osittain järjestäytynyt. Konsulttien koulutustaso on kirjava, vaihtuvuus on suuri eikä alalle ole muodostunut markkinasuojaa. Monet ulkoiset muutostekijät luovat kuitenkin tarvetta professionaalistumisprosessin etenemiselle. Professio kuvaa joukkoa ihmisiä, joilla on samanlainen koulutuksellinen tausta, siihen liittyvä tiedeperusta ja näihin liittyvä yhteiskunnan hyväksyntä ammatillisine ja eettisine normistoineen. Artikkelissa käsitellään profession muodostumista liikkeenjohdon konsultoinnissa. Kirjoittaja näkee toimialan arvoketjuna. Sen muodostavat …
How Can Strategic Leadership be Applied to the Development of the Local Church? A Discussion of Content and Process
2019
Whether you want to or not, strategies are formed. Increased awareness of strategic choices increases the chances that one arrives where one intends to. This is probably an important reason why some local churches work to develop and implement strategies. At the same time, the discussion in this article shows that there is very little research literature that provides a guide to how strategic leadership can be done in a good way in a local church. In this article, it is argued that the strategic leadership ideas developed in businesses can be used in the local church, taking into account the church’s peculiarities. The church’s theological-spiritual dimension must provide guidelines on how …
Knowledge behaviors when the commons are at stake: Insights from the Covid-19 crisis
2020
How do people’s beliefs on the likely system-level consequences of circulating a certain piece of knowledge influence those people’s knowledge behaviors? To address this question, we leverage the most recent developments of the theory of the commons as learning systems. According to this theory, people are strongly responsive to perceived threats to the commons they (may) benefit from, and strive to learn and respond accordingly. Through this theoretical lens, we analyze thick qualitative data (January-April 2020) from the Covid-19 crisis, which resulted in unprecedented visibility of commons-related knowledge behaviors. The contribution of this inductive study is fourfold. First, we identi…
