This paper proposes a critical re-examination of the recent trends of the literature on venture capital networks. This brief review thoroughly scrutinises three papers that are representative of the recent academic literature in this field of study. I identify their points of strength and limitations, in order to pave the way for future research. This thesis focuses on studying the noise in transition-edge sensors (TES). More specifically, the aim is to find an explanation for the observed excess noise that is limiting their performance and has been troubling the TES field in recent years. Several theories have been put forth but a definitive answer is still missing. In the early stages of this thesis work a novel theory was presented for the noise in a special TES geometry. In our theory the excess noise is caused by correlated fluctuations of superconductivity at the phase boundary between normal and superconducting states. Software Complexity and Organization of Firms’ Offshoring Activities

How does software complexity shape software providers’ offshoring tasks, and how do such firms organize their offshoring activity? These questions are important, since the global software development market is growing rapidly, offering new opportunities for software managers and entrepreneurs to distribute their activities geographically. Based on a multi-site case study of 12 software firms, we study connections between software complexity and the offshoring strategies selected. Our findings suggest that software firms select a variety of organizational structures for their offshoring activity, and that the selection is shaped by the complexity of the software in question. peerReviewed
On displacement-velocity coupling and the origin of in-plane stress in orthotropic moving continua

In this paper, we address the problem of the origin of in-plane stresses in continuous, two-dimensional high-speed webs. In the case of thin, slender webs, a typical modeling approach is the application of a stationary in-plane model, without considering the effects of in-plane velocity field. However, for high-speed webs this approach is insufficient, because it neglects the coupling between the total material velocity and the deformation experienced by the material.
