Thermal, glass-forming, nonlinear optical and holographic properties of "push-pull" type azochromophores with triphenyl moieties containing isophoren…
2013
Molecular organic compounds with electron donating fragment bounded through π-conjugated system with electron acceptor fragment, as well as with incorporated triphenyl groups in their molecules show potential for creating cheap and simple solution processable materials with nonlinear optical properties. Additional insertion of azobenzene fragment in their structures makes them also possible to form holographic volume and surface relief gratings (SRG) after exposure to laser radiation, which could be useful for holographic data storage. For these purposes polymers are generally used. However, their application is complicated and challenging task as in every attempt to obtain the same polymer…
Beiträge zur polymerisation von 2-isopropenylnaphthalin, 3. Anionische homopolymerisation von 2-isopropenylnaphthalin
1981
The anionic homopolymerization of 2-isoprenylnaphthalene with butyllithium in tetrahydrofuran at –78°C is described. The refractive index increment amounts to dn/dc = 0,2084 ml/g for these polymers in toluene at 25°C and wavelength λ = 436 nm. Determination of the molecular weights by light scattering yielded values between 13 000 and 270 000. The second virial coefficients also determined by light scattering measurements are comparable with the corresponding data of poly(α-methylstyrene). A calibration curve is given for gel permeation chromatography of the poly(2-isoprenylnaphthalene)s, whose polymolecularity indexes Mw/Mn lie between 1,06 and 1,2. Their intrinsic viscosity/molecular weig…
Novel acrylamido monomers with higher hydrophilicity and improved hydrolytic stability: II. Properties of N-acryloylaminopropanol
1996
The physico-chemical properties and the electrophoretic behavior of the novel set of monomers reported by (Simo-Alfonso et al., Electrophoresis 1996, 17, 723-731) have been evaluated. Of utmost importance was the combination of high hydrophilicity and extreme hydrolytic stability, most desired properties for, any electrophoretic matrix, especially for protein fractionation. One of these monomers (N-acryloylaminopropanol, AAP) was found indeed to be extremely hydrophilic (with a partition coefficient P of only 0.10, vs. P = 0.13 for N-acryloylaminoethoxyethanol and P = 0.20 for acrylamide) and to possess excellent stability to alkaline hydrolysis. Its hydrolysis constant (0.008 L mol-1 min-1…
Tracer diffusion properties of core-shell latex films studied by photoinduced grating relaxation
2007
This article reports the application of the Photo-Induced Grating Relaxation technique (also known as Forced Rayleigh Scattering) to investigate the dynamics of films prepared from structured core–shell latex particles via the transport property of the photochromic tracer molecule Aberchrome 540®. The core–shell particles were prepared with a fluoropolymer core (immiscible and impenetrable to the tracer) and a poly(butyl methacrylate) shell. The incompletely dried films (with residual water) manifest their spatial heterogeneity via non-Fickian behavior (spatial scale- dependent apparent diffusion coefficient). The diffusion data was interpreted using the two-state diffusion model, previousl…
Perovskite solar cells prepared by flash evaporation
2015
A simple vacuum deposition method for the preparation of high quality hybrid organic-inorganic methylammonium lead iodide perovskite thin films is reported. When sandwiched in between organic charge transporting layers, such films lead to solar cells with a power conversion efficiency of 12.2%.
Side-chain conjugated polymers for use in the active layers of hybrid semiconducting polymer/quantum dot light emitting diodes
2016
Three monomers, M1–M3, with modified carbazole cores and styrene functionality were prepared for use in the active layers of hybrid polymer/quantum dot light emitting diodes. Utilizing reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization, side-chain conjugated polymers, P1–P3, with narrow polydispersities and disulfide end groups were obtained. The thermal, optical, and electrochemical properties of the polymers varied depending on the substituents of the carbazole cores. Through the disulfide end groups the polymers were chemically blended with quantum dots to obtain QD/polymer hybrids, which were further used as active layers in light emitting diodes. The fabricated devices ret…
Correlation between polymer architecture, mesoscale structure and photovoltaic performance in side-chain-modified poly(p-arylene-ethynylene)-alt-poly…
2011
Abstract Recent investigations have shown that an anthracene containing poly( p -arylene-ethynylene)-alt-poly( p -arylene-vinylene) statistical copolymer consisting of a well defined conjugated backbone, along which linear and branched alkoxy side chains are attached in a random manner, yields, compared to its counterparts with regular side chain substitution, an improved performance in polymer [6,6]:-phenyl-C 61 -butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) bulk-heterojunction solar cells. The microscopic origin for the improved power conversion efficiency ( η ≈ 3.8%) of the statistical copolymer – which is the best in its material class – has not been resolved. We conducted grazing incidence wide-an…
Metal-Oxide-Free Methylammonium Lead Iodide Perovskite-Based Solar Cells: the Influence of Organic Charge Transport Layers
2014
Metal-oxide-free methylammonium lead iodide perovskite-based solar cells are prepared using a dual-source thermal evaporation method. This method leads to high quality reproducible films with large crystal domain sizes allowing for an in depth study of the effect of perovskite film thickness and the nature of the electron and hole blocking layers on the device performance. The power conversion efficiency increases from 4.7% for a device with only an organic electron blocking layer to almost 15% when an organic hole blocking layer is also employed. In addition to the in depth study on small area cells, larger area cells (approx. 1 cm(-2)) are prepared and exhibit efficiencies in excess of 10…

<title>Holographic recording in polymer composites of organic photochromes and chalcogenides</title>
2008
Recently a number of organic and inorganic materials have been studied for direct surface-relief formation during the exposure process by a light or e-beam. It is very promising for practical application enabling the possibility to simplify the surface-relief formation technology. In this report the method of preparation of thin polymer-chalcogenide and polymer-azobenzene composite films is described, and some features of photoinduced changes of optical properties and holographic recording of these materials are studied. Films of composites were obtained from solution of arsenic sulphide, Disperse red 1 and polymers in organic solvents. The solution was spread on glass substrate and dried. …
