Energy management strategy to reduce pollutant emissions during the catalyst light-off of parallel hybrid vehicles

Abstract The transportation sector is a major contributor to both air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Hybrid electric vehicles can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by optimizing the energy management of the powertrain. The purpose of this study is to examine the trade-off between regulated pollutant emissions and hybrid powertrain efficiency. The thermal dynamics of the three-way catalyst are taken into account in order to optimize the light-off. Evaluation of performance and efficiency and type approval of an electrically assisted bicycle drive

The diffusion of electrically assisted bicycles gives rise to the need of the evaluation of the performance and efficiency of the electric drive that supply it. In this paper, is presented a test bench for the estimation of the electric drive output torque under several speed and load conditions. Moreover, the test bench detects the electrical and mechanical parameters that allow to evaluate the electrical drive efficiencies. Design of a LLC Resonant Converter for Powering a PEM Electrolyzer

International audience; This paper proposes the design of a LLC resonant converter to supply a proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer. The PEM requires a low voltage with high current, a reduced output voltage ripple, and an overdamped dynamic behavior of the converter to avoid voltage overshoots. The designed converter allows satisfying the design constraints, minimizing switching and reverse recovery losses; the efficiency is influenced mainly by the output rectifier's conduction losses.

Strongly-coupled PbS QD solids by doctor blading for IR photodetection

Solution-processed QD solids are emerging as a novel concept for high-performance optoelectronic devices. In this work, doctor blading is proposed for the fabrication of strongly-coupled QD solids from a PbS nanoink for photodetection at telecom wavelengths. The key step of this procedure is the solid-state ligand exchange, which reduces the interparticle distance and increases the carrier mobility in the resulting strongly-coupled QD solid. This is accomplished by replacing the original long oleylamine molecules by shorter molecules like 3-mercaptopropionic acid, as confirmed by FTIR, TGA and XPS. Temperature Dependent Quantum Efficiencies in Multicrystalline Silicon Solar Cells

Abstract Several field studies comparing modules based on Elkem Solar Silicon ® (ESS ® ) cells with reference modules based on non-compensated virgin polysilicon show that the compensated ESS ® modules outperform the reference modules with comparable installed capacity under certain operating conditions. At high temperatures and high irradiation conditions the modules based on compensated silicon produce more energy than the reference modules. Azatruxene‐Based, Dumbbell‐Shaped, Donor–π‐Bridge–Donor Hole‐Transporting Materials for Perovskite Solar Cells

Three novel donor-π-bridge-donor (D-π-D) hole-transporting materials (HTMs) featuring triazatruxene electron-donating units bridged by different 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) π-conjugated linkers have been synthesized, characterized, and implemented in mesoporous perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The optoelectronic properties of the new dumbbell-shaped derivatives (DTTXs) are highly influenced by the chemical structure of the EDOT-based linker. In order to reduce fuel cost and CO2 emissions, modern spark ignition (SI) engines need to lower as much as possible fuel consumption. A crucial factor for efficiency improvement is represented by the combustion phase, which in an SI engine is controlled acting on the spark advance. The performance of a spark ignition engine strongly depends on the phase of the combustion process with respect to piston motion, and hence on the spark advance; this fundamental parameter is actually controlled in open-loop by means of maps drawn up on the test bench and stored in the Electronic Control Unit (ECU).
