Cooperative transmission (CT) enables balanced energy consumption among sensor nodes and mitigates the energy hole problem in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In typical CT enabled medium access control (MAC) protocols, a source node decides to trigger CT or not based on a residual energy comparison between itself and its relay node. In this paper, we propose a receiver initiated CT MAC protocol, in which the receiving node makes the decision on initiating CT or not based on a tradeoff between performing CT and non-CT. The problem of interoperability: A common data format for quantum chemistry codes

A common format for quantum chemistry (QC), enhancing code interoperability and communication between different programs, has been designed and implemented. An XML-based format, QC-ML, is presented for representing quantities such as geometry, basis set, and so on, while an HDF5-based format is presented for the storage of large binary data files. Some preliminary applications that use the format have been implemented and are also described. Anomalous transport properties of the half-metallic ferromagnets Co 2 TiSi, Co 2 TiGe and Co 2 TiSn

In this work the theoretical and experimental investigations of Co2TiZ (Z = Si, Ge, or Sn) compounds are reported. Half-metallic ferromagnetism is predicted for all three compounds with only two bands crossing the Fermi energy in the majority channel. The magnetic moments fulfill the Slater-Pauling rule and the Curie temperatures are well above room temperature. All compounds show a metallic like resistivity for low temperatures up to their Curie temperature, above the resistivity changes to semiconducting like behavior. A large negative magnetoresistance of 55% is observed for Co2TiSn at room temperature in an applied magnetic field of 4T which is comparable to the large negative magnetore…
Evidence of delocalized excitons in amorphous solids

We studied the temperature dependence of the absorption coefficient of amorphous ${\mathrm{SiO}}_{2}$ in the range from 8 to 17.5 eV obtained by Kramers-Kronig dispersion analysis of reflectivity spectra. We demonstrate the main excitonic resonance at 10.4 eV to feature a close Lorentzian shape redshifting with increasing temperature. This provides a strong evidence of excitons being delocalized notwithstanding the structural disorder intrinsic to amorphous ${\mathrm{SiO}}_{2}$. Excitons turn out to be coupled to an average phonon mode of 83 meV energy.
Effects of high pressure on the optical absorption spectrum of scintillating PbWO4 crystals

The pressure behavior of the absorption edge of PbWO4 was studied up to 15.3 GPa. It red-shifts at -71 meV/GPa below 6.1 GPa, but at 6.3 GPa the band-gap collapses from 3.5 eV to 2.75 eV. From 6.3 GPa to 11.1 GPa, the absorption edge moves with a pressure coefficient of -98 meV/GPa, undergoing additional changes at 12.2 GPa. The results are discussed in terms of the electronic structure of PbWO4 which attribute the behavior of the band-gap to changes in the local atomic structure. The changes observed at 6.3 GPa and 12.2 GPa are attributed to phase transitions.
