Crossing the magical barriers of art : Social class, authorship and capital in the contemporary Finnish literary field

This article examines how social class origin is experienced to affect the trajectories of becoming and being an author in the context of the contemporary Finnish literary field. It analyzes authors’ experiences of social class, artistic work and authorship in a theoretical framework that draws from the work of Pierre Bourdieu and Beverley Skeggs, particularly the concepts of economic and cultural capital, habitus and inscription. Social class origin is argued to be a relevant factor that affects the ways authorship is pursued even in a country, such as Finland, where artistic labor is relatively well supported by the public sector. Tutkimus tarkasteli perhetaustan vaikutusta korkeasti koulutettujen työmarkkina-asemaan 2000-luvun Suomessa. Ilmiötä tutkittiin European Social Surveyn vuoden 2008 Suomen aineistolla. Aineiston kolmannen asteen tutkinnon suorittaneet jaettiin vanhempien ammattiasemaan perusteella kahtia yläluokkaisten ja muiden jälkeläisiin. Eritaustaisten korkeasti koulutettujen työmarkkina-asemia vertailtiin tarkastelemalla heidän sijoittumista työssä vaadittavien erityisten ammattitaitojen määrän, työn itsenäisyyden asteen ja tulojen mukaan määriteltyihin työntekijäryhmiin. Maaseutualueille luodaan neljä mahdollista tulevaisuuskuvaa kirjallisuuden ja tulevaisuusverstaiden aineistojen pohjalta tulevaisuustaulukkomenetelmää hyödyntäen. Tulevaisuuskuvat ovat hajautunut biotalous, siirtomaatalous, museomaaseutu ja saarekemaaseutu. Crowdturfing, the dark side and usually unnoticed face of crowdsourcing, represents a form of cyber-deception in which workers are paid to express a false digital impression. While such behavior may not be punishable under the jurisdiction of formal law, its consequences are destructive to the cohesion and trustworthiness of online information. The conceptual work at hand examines the current literature on the topic, and lays the foundation for a theoretical framework that explains crowdturfing behavior.
