The article focuses on an unknown phenomenon developed within the frame of the Counter-reformation Italy, in which interact the Catholic faith and a sort of transfer from painting to literature. At the time, the Latin-American flower maracock (maracuja), renamed granadilla by the Spanish conquistadores, was transformed by the Jesuits into Flos passionis/passionflower, whose components were forced to represent Christ crucifixion. From 1608 to the 1660s, priests and poets, like the well-known G. Botero and G. B. Marino, wrote poems on the passionflower on the basis of some unreal images spread by the Jesuits. In this article I develop the concept of kinekphrasis to designate a particular form of intermediality, speci cally, the verbal representation of cinema or other form of moving image. Kinekphrasis builds upon ekphrasis, the classical rhetorical term that today generally refers to texts about static artworks, such as paintings and statues. Representing the medial complex of cinema, however, sets a distinct sensorial and semiotic challenge to a text and brings about a form of intermediality di erent from the traditional ekphrasis. Pro gradu -tutkielmani käsittelee sarjakuva-ekfrasiksen mahdollisuutta sarjakuvassa. Pyrin löytämään vastauksia seuraaviin kysymyksiin: miten ja millaisista teoreettisista lähtökohdista sarjakuva-ekfrasis rakentuu? Voidaanko sarjakuva-ekfrasiksen löytämiseksi luoda vakaata tulkintakehystä, ja pystyykö käsitteelle antamaan pätevää määritelmää? Hypoteesinani on, että sarjakuvan narratiivilla on erityinen merkitys sarjakuva-ekfrasiksen paikantamisessa. Tutkielma käsittelee intermediaalisuutta eli medioiden välisyyttä Bob Perelmanin runossa ”The Manchurian Candidate: A Remake” (kokoelmasta The Future of Memory, 1998) ja erityisesti sen suhdetta tiettyyn elokuvaan, John Frankenheimerin poliittiseen trilleriin The Manchurian Candidate (1962). Werner Wolfin termein teosten suhteessa on kyse intermediaalisesta viittauksesta, jossa merkitsijöiden tasolla käytetään yhtä mediaa mutta toinen on läsnä merkittynä ja representaation kohteena.
