Is Broad the New Deep in Environmental Ethics? A Comparison of Broad Ecological Justice and Deep Ecology

I argue in this article that a theory of broad ecological justice or the extended capabilities approach, an interesting approach in contemporary environmental ethics, shares many of its core ideas with deep ecology and Arne Næss’s ecosophy T. The similarities between these approaches include the ambition to address the roots of environmental problems, emphasis on recognition and the criticism of oppressive structures, and a systemic orientation. Yksilöiden ekologiset kulutusidentiteetit ja median tarjoamat vaihtoehdot

Tämän tutkimuksen tehtävänä on selvittää, millaisia ekologisia kulutusidentiteettejä yksilöillä on ja verrata niitä mediassa esillä oleviin kuluttajuusmalleihin. Tutkimus on luonteeltaan laadullinen ja se on toteutettu käyttämällä sisällönanalyysiä sekä diskurssianalyysiä. Työssä on hyödynnetty kahta eri aineistoa. Yhtenä aineistona on käytetty kahdeksankymmenen tekstin kirjoituskilpa-aineistoa, jonka on kerännyt Suomalaisen kirjallisuuden seura ajanjaksolla 1.10.2010-31.5.2011. Media-aineisto puolestaan on kerätty neljästä eri sanomalehdestä. Nämä lehdet ovat Helsingin Sanomat, Turun Sanomat, Keskisuomalainen ja Kauppalehti. Browning-induced changes in trophic functioning of planktonic food webs in temperate and boreal lakes: insights from fatty acids

AbstractThe effects of lake browning on trophic functioning of planktonic food webs are not fully understood. We studied the effects of browning on the response patterns of polyunsaturated fatty acids and n−3/n−6 ratio in seston and compared them between boreal and temperate lakes. We also compared the regional differences and the effects of lake browning on the reliance of zooplankton on heterotrophic microbial pathways and the mass fractions of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in zooplankton.
