Väitöstutkimuksessani tarkastelen broilerikanojen kuvauksia vuosina 1969–2019 julkaistuissa suomenkielisissä romaaneissa, novelleissa ja sarjakuvissa. Kysyn, miten broilerintuotantoa ja siinä eläviä kanoja sekä kuolleita broilereita kuvataan suomenkielisessä kirjallisuudessa. Tutkimukseni tavoitteena on tuottaa tietoa broilereista kirjallisuudessa ja kehittää välineitä tuotantoeläinten ja teollisen eläintuotannon tutkimiseen kirjallisuudentutkimuksen alueella. Invasive marbled crayfish Procambarus virginalis (Lyko, 2017) is spreading alarmingly fast across European countries and beyond. Early maturation, parthenogenetic reproduction mode and high growth rate contribute to a high potential invasiveness. Marbled crayfish can pose severe effects on native communities impacting the native crayfish populations being carrier of the crayfish plague disease caused by Aphanomyces astaci. Here we report the first record of marbled crayfish in Estonia. The pathogenesis of metabolic diseases, such as metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes, has begun to negatively affect life expectancy of current generations. Low aerobic capacity has shown to be a strong predictor of mortality both in rodents and humans. In this paper, we argue that the classical conception concerning the relation between animals and humans in Western philosophy is anthropocentric. Notwithstanding the traditional outlook which has emphasized the substantial difference between animal and human intellect, we contend that this classical position has been overturned during the epistemological-evolutionist shift culminated in the 18th and 19th centuries. Tutkimus tarkastelee savolaisella maaseudulla 1900-luvulla toimineiden pientilallisten eläinsuhdetta ja heidän sosiaalisen ja kulttuurisen kestävyyden kokemuksiaan. Tarkoituksena on selvittää eläinsuhteen merkitystä elämän hallinnan ja mielekkyyden kokemuksessa sekä sitä, millaisista sosiaalisista, kulttuurisista ja taloudellisista edellytyksistä kestävyys koostui ja mitkä tekijät sitä murensivat. Research on this issue has, to date, mainly concentrated on energy systems. In this paper, we examine how the elaboration of dietary transition widens the spectrum of justice questions in sustainability transitions research. The aim of this essay is to address the challenges and problems in communicating with horses and interpreting their communication in everyday handling and training situations. We seek ways to learn more about equine communication and agency in the prevention of cruelty against animals and in enhancing animal welfare.
