Magnetic excitations of the singlet ground state antiferromagnet CsFeBr3 in a magnetic field

Abstract The magnetic excitations in the quasi-one-dimensional singlet ground state antiferromagnet CsFeBr3 have been studied by inelastic neutron scattering in the presence of an applied magnetic field, H‖c and H⊥c. With H‖c, the dispersion curves renormalise so that the exchange interaction has a decreasing influence with increasing field. H⊥c has little or no effect on the dispersion of the magnetic excitations.

Magnetic excitations in polyoxometalate tetrameric clusters

Abstract The metal-oxide clusters with formula [M4(D2O)2(PW9O34)2]10− which contain a tetrameric magnetic cluster M4O16 provide an ideal series for the study of magnetic exchange interactions in polymetallic molecular clusters. To get a more direct information on the splitting of the spin states caused by the exchange interactions we have performed inelastic neutron scattering measurements on the Co, Mn and Ni clusters. Magnetic excitations have been observed in the range 0.5–6 meV. A tentative interpretation of these data from a Heisenberg exchange Hamiltonian and a single ion zero-field splitting is presented for Ni cluster.

Flux-flow instability and its anisotropy inBi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δsuperconducting films

We report measurements on voltage instability at high flux-flow velocities in ${\mathrm{Bi}}_{2}{\mathrm{Sr}}_{2}{\mathrm{CaCu}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{8+\mathrm{\ensuremath{\delta}}}$ superconducting films. Current-voltage $(I\ensuremath{-}V)$ characteristics have been measured as a function of temperature, magnetic field, and angle between the field and the c axis of the sample. Voltage jumps were observed in $I\ensuremath{-}V$ characteristics taken in all magnetic-field directions and in extended temperature and field ranges. Density of Phonon States in Superconducting FeSe as a Function of Temperature and Pressure

The temperature and pressure dependence of the partial density of phonon states (phonon-DOS) of iron atoms in superconducting ${\text{Fe}}_{1.01}\text{Se}$ was studied by $^{57}\text{F}\text{e}$ nuclear inelastic scattering. The high-energy resolution allows for a detailed observation of spectral properties. A sharpening of the optical phonon modes and shift of all spectral features toward higher energies by $\ensuremath{\sim}4\mathrm{%}$ with decreasing temperature from 296 to 10 K was found. Non-local stiffness and damping models for shear-deformable beams

This paper presents the dynamics of a non-local Timoshenko beam. The key assumption involves modeling non-local effects as long-range volume forces and moments mutually exerted by non-adjacent beam segments, that contribute to the equilibrium of any beam segment along with the classical local stress resultants. Elastic and viscous long-range volume forces/moments are endowed in the model. They are built as linearly depending on the product of the volumes of the interacting beam segments and on generalized measures of their relative motion, based on the pure deformation modes of the beam. Secondary electron flight times and tracks in the carbon foil time pick-up detector

Carbon foil time pick-up detectors used in the time-of-flight measurements of MeV energy ions have been studied in connection to time-of-flight-energy spectrometer used for heavy ion elastic recoil detection analysis. In experimental coincident TOF-E data characteristic halos are observed around light element isobars, and the origin of these halos were studied. The experimental data indicated that these halos originate from single electron events occurring before the electron multiplication in the microchannel plate. Fractional visco-elastic systems under normal white noise

In this paper an original method is presented to compute the stochastic response of singledegree- of-freedom structural systems with viscoelastic fractional damping. The key-idea stems from observing that, based on a few manipulations involving an appropriate change of variable and a discretization of the fractional derivative operator, the equation of motion can be reverted to a coupled linear system involving additional degrees of freedom, the number of which depends on the discretization adopted for the fractional derivative operator. Fractional-Order Theory of Thermoelasticity. II: Quasi-Static Behavior of Bars

This work aims to shed light on the thermally-anomalous coupled behavior of slightly deformable bodies, in which the strain is additively decomposed in an elastic contribution and in a thermal part. The macroscopic heat flux turns out to depend upon the time history of the corresponding temperature gradient, and this is the result of a multiscale rheological model developed in Part I of the present study, thereby resembling a long-tail memory behavior governed by a Caputo's fractional operator. Compton scattering off nucleons near threshold

The energy dependence of the magnetic polarizability β has been evaluated by use of the delta resonance in the s- and u-channel of the Compton scattering amplitude. It was the idea to extract the influence of higher order terms (higher than ω2, ω = |k| being the photon energy) in the analysis of the polarizability. The static paramagnetic polarizability βPara(0) has been substituted by an energy dependent βδPara(k) and the result is compared with experimental data.
